Ps4 Jailbreak service rumors incoming from Brazil
The PS4 Jailbreak news of the day was brought to my attention today by a Brazilian follower: a PS3 Modchip store in Brazil claimed this week that they designed a device to copy and run PS4 backup games. Since a few people have contacted me about that now, I feel an article is required.
Loosely translated as the PS4 Game Package Installation system, the device, they say, was 100% created in Brazil and is “fully functional” (which I understand as “this lets you play pirated PS4 games”).
In the announce, the shop state that they are working closely with a few stores to provide the service. It seems they intend to sell the method (and the device) to a limited number of partners, who will then resell “backup games installation” rather than reselling the device to end users. The goal here being to ensure the secrecy of their technique.
Rumors of a PS4 Jailbreak originated on a Brazilian store’s facebook page
There are significant red flags to this announce though: first, maybe the most obvious, is that the picture of their device is a generic raspberry pi picture. If I had access to a device that lets me pirate ps4 games, I would at the very least provide a legit photo of it.

Secondly, the business seems flaky at best. Their website does not exist, and the only relevant information I could find about them is a “work in progress” website with no content whatsoever. They do however seem to get good reviews, and seem to be a reputable store for PS3 downgrades, etc…
This could be legit, but for now I’m inclined to categorize this as a publicity stunt from that store, and not an actual thing.
PS4 Jailbreak, the status?
There have been many fakes related to a PS4 jailbreak since the PS4 was released. Some of these fake PS4 jailbreaks included the Reckz0r rumor, which was then replaced by the Lizard Squad rumor (same story, new group). Most of these rumors have been made popular by websites unrelated to the hacking scene, through click-bait articles. We have debunked most of those.
This is likely to be yet another one. Until this is confirmed to be true or false, take this as a rumor, edging on the “false”, and make sure to always check our PS4 Jailbreak page for the most up to date and verified information.
Gaming consoles and games have the reputation of being largely overpriced in Brazil, where piracy is the norm.

If it’s coming from Brazil, we all know it’s a fake. Brazil doesn’t have the resources to generate a PS4 Dongle, let alone create PS4 backups. They might as well said they were Cuban. Then we would all get a good laugh out of this.

While I agree that “we have the same technology”, I can guarantee to you that we don’t even have the same know-how as, for example, Geohot. Wile we do have people that can do what Geohot did – reverse engineer a system to get master keys, witch is *** hard – we don’t even have someone that found a kernel exploit on a PSP game. Do you know any Brazilian Dev that actually did that? No one, thought so. Those that do have the knowledge to do so, are working for big companies that deals with IT for international banks, and win a shitload of money per month. So yeah, it’s fake. And yeah, we don’t have the RESOURCES (read, money) to do it. Consoles here are too *** expensive for you “John Snow” to open it up and meddle with it.

I wasn’t trying to put your country down by saying it’s weak and uneducated. I only stated that it doesn’t have the necessary resources to build a dongle let alone create PS4 backups. If your country has a strong economy as you say, then why are video games so expensive? It’s hard to believe that if they produced the systems themselves that they would even consider to sell them at a high bargain. Unless they only accumulate their video game sales on imports, then that just makes sense.

Sou Brasileiro e trabalho como programador, e pra quem não sabe o Brasil é sim referencia quando se trada de segurança de informação. Inclusive, uma das linguagens de programação mais utilizadas para “embedded systems” foi 100% desenvolvida no Brasil.

As much as I enjoy my PS Vita, there is really no point in worrying with a Vita JB/CFW because Sony has pretty much given up on it. Most games can be bought for around $20 or so and Sony has even said don’t expect any more AAA titles on it.

Though I don’ t actually believe they got it, I don’ t see why the problem with the raspberry pi. We have just got our hands on an exploit triggered by a multiplayer component (connecting to a hacked PSP/VITA), why couldn’t this use the same principle? It could be a daemon process running on the network on an appliance (for obfuscation purposes) and the ps4 could connect to this daemon through some game or app and trigger an exploit.
But the problem is that this is plain piracy, not console modding. They state that they will not “sell” the method, they will provide a service through “selected” retailers where they make backups for you to play for a fee. So basically, you would be paying for them to insert pirated content on your console, which is a business model I do not believe would be legally acceptable.
I’m originally from El Salvador and this kind of shops were almost everywhere, they would charge $30 to hack your xbox and $60 if you wanted games included.
Same thing with the Wii, PS1, etc… They would charge $5 per game and it wasn’t hard to find those places.
El Salvador had (and still has) way bigger problems for autority to be focusing on stoping pirates and this bussiness practices.
This way it goes on many other latin american countries and I don’t doubt Brazil would be one of them.

As a Brazilian, I know this is fake, I read a little more of the other post, and what I understood that they said was that “they found a way to install games on the PS4”, so we could consider it like Vita Exploits, where you haven’t exactly jailbroken the system. But if you consider it, there whould be no reason for a Raspberry Pi photo, specially taken from Google, so no, no and no.
There is no mention of dongle, they say it more like “technique”, a “method” to install free games, so it’s not like “Brazil has no infrastructure to make a dongle or a modchip” would affect it.

Hi Wololo, im from Brazil. Its not a true Jailbreak. They are exploiting Sony system. Its like a Ghost Recipe method of Ps3 using PSID + CFW SPOOF.
You buy 1 game with 1 psn account.
Install that game in PS4.
Log ur account and ENABLE this game.
Now use SPOOF/PACKAGE EDIT to DISABLE PSID of that PS4.

Hey bros! The hack is real, and it is not a real hack, but a real bypass, they are using a very simple and old technique from the MSX age, just simple rewrite eeprom, the quite and simple way to say GO. They arent decrypt or crypt anything. When sony tried to safe secure the PS4 they forgot to hardlock inside the CPU/APU the real hashcode for the bios, this is intent to not allow bios to be exchanged or rewrite, so, as they failure to do it, what the Hackers are doing is just simple running the real software inside one console, you can do it as psn/accounts, so the PS4 add $$$ game info inside the rom! So, they only need to stuff original games and matches run bios roms, so, the ROM/GAME will match and so will execute in the console. Remember that ROM can run a FOREVER SOFTWARE INSTALLED ON IT, so, all the games are REAL ORIGINAL and the PS4 arent hacked at all. The Hack is a bypass of ASM code for follow ROM/BIOS reading using a PI, YES SIMPLE AS BRAZILIAN WAY.
But all further games will depend on matches or DUMPS of BIOS/GAME, REMEMBER PS4 GAMES HAVE IT OWN HASH CODE! So, you cant decrypt it like in the PS3 default key, each game has it own key and it must match yo your BIOS coded hash, so, PS4-GAME tied forever! This only doesnt happen in a CD environment, where the hash authenticate the drive and return to PS$$$ that authenticate the BIOS and return with authenticate game, so, it is impossible to use a BYPASS in CD/SATA as no key extracttion is possible in a 4 way schema.
BUT THE WAY BRAZILIAN DID IS POSSIBLE, SIMPLE AND WILL RUN!
They just simplified the way to do it!
PI is just to enable flashing/reflashing/ontimeflash/simulation of BIOS.

It is true, you can jailbreak your PS4 in Brazil. Its a microchip that would allow cloning a ps4 with the games into a new ps4 formating the HDD. I’ve talked to a guy in a store who does it, and he affirmed that the technology was developed in Russia, he confirmed that there’s a russian website explaning everything and that they translated from there. There’s one of the most famous brazilian games website called “UOL JOGOS” they tested it, it actually worked, after contacting sony they didn’t have any replies. Although they affirmed it worked!!! Eu não faria se fosse você, as chances de perder direito até mesmo de assistencia tecnica da sony é muito grande, dar o console para alguem abrir e “hackear” com certeza aumenta consideravelmente as chances de possiveis falhas e erros no videogame. Sem contar a possibilidade de banimento do console de acessar recursos online. Exatamente amigo Richard! O site do UOL ainda, quando eles fizeram a matéria do tipo “X9”, eles viram que funcionava perfeitamente, eles avisaram a sony e enviaram o PS4 “modificado” para a sony investigar.
Provavelmente logo isso irá parar de funcionar. Eu conversei com um técnico na santa Efigênia amigo meu que está fazendo essa modificação no console, ele disse que se a sony banir, ele não tem como dar garantia (o que ja era esperado).
Eu estou aguardando pra ver. Sabemos que se a Sony não tomar uma providencia, o console vai estourar em vendas aqui no Brasil, inclusive ele ja está sendo vendido na santa Efigênia ja com essa modificação e com 10 jogos no HD a sua escolha.

Cfwprophet’s explanation seems to confirm the technique. He however says that attempting this on the latest PS4 firmware (2.51) will brick your console:
Buy a PSN Game on Master Console and download it
Connect Slave Console to PSN, create Account from Master Console, activate Slave Console and download the game
Dump the NOR Flash of Slave Console with Tools like Teensy++ or the Pi (let us call that dump from now on ActivatedDMP)
Boot Slave Console, Connect to PSN and Deactivate the Console
Write the ActivatedDMP back to the NOR of Slave Console
Profit, the Process can now be repeated on any other PS4 without reaching the “three consoles max" official PSN Game Share limit.
