So awhile back we reported on an FTC case where Sony was under-fire for allegations of deceptive and false advertising among a handful of other things regarding the initial launch of the PS Vita. The FTC basically saw their actions as anti-consumer and subsequently brought charges against them. Well, as of this week the FTC has finally finalized the ruling and the outcome. SCEA neither admits or denies the liability (go figure) but has agreed to settle with the FTC.

If you purchased a Vita before June 1, 2012 then you are eligible for a payout. There are three choices to choose from: $25 check, $25 PSN credit to your account or a games-bundle selection as pictured below.

 

Sony has verified everyone that is eligible. You should have already received an email to the address that is tied to your primary PSN account used to register or activate your Vita. Emails started going out on April 5th. There is a link that is specific to you, enclosed with the email, that is required for claiming. Otherwise, if you did not get the email or no longer have access to that email you can still fill out a form and mail it. You can get said form by going to Vitaclaims.com.

To qualify and sign up for your free choice of cash, credit or games all you need to do is supply some basic information such as your PSN ID and name. It is optional to register your serial number but will help in verifying your claim faster. If your serial or SIRIS number has peeled off; then you can find the serial number by hooking up your Vita to your PC and checking properties or by checking on the side of the PlayStation Vita box.

Its certainly not the best selection of games and $25 isn’t a great return on spending $250 but hey, it’s free. Make sure to claim your money or games before June 30, 2015. They will stop taking claims after that date. The claims should be paid out sometime before that. Remember that the FTC only represents US consumers. There have been no movements against Sony elsewhere regarding the charges by the FTC.
