Mandatory PS Vita firmware 3.36 is now available! – Good bye Custom Bubbles?!
Sony has just released a new firmware for the PS Vita. This new firmware is mandatory for using the online services, such as the Playstation Store, Trophies and other services.
Firmware 3.36 can now be downloaded onto your PS Vita 1000, PS Vita 2000 or PSV TV. If the firmware is not available in your region yet, wait a few hours and try it again.
Since the numeral difference between 3.35 and 3.36 is small, no new features are expected.
But what does firmware 3.36 actually change? Well…
I’ve just updated my PS Vita from firmware 3.35 to firmware 3.36 and I have to say that barely anything has changed.
The custom bubbles are still working, which is a relief, but Sony did change something in firmware 3.36, a change we do not like.
Prior to firmware 3.36 you were able to modify content inside of the /PSP/GAME/…/ folders, if you renamed the /PSP/ folder into /PSP2/, since this circumvented this protection.
As of firmware 3.36 you are unable to rename the /PSP/ or the /PSP/GAME/ folder, which pretty much stops you from setting up new custom bubbles.
Since you have to rename a folder to set up a new custom bubble, you are not able to do this from firmware 3.36. This also prevents cloning bubbles, since these also require some folder renaming.
Thats pretty much it. We will tell you if we’ve found anything else in firmware 3.36.
Stay tuned!

Still with my vita 3.18 and pstv 3.20. Im happy 🙂
Haha nice! I went out on Craigslist and snagged another vita for cheap for tje same thing! 2.80 for me
Me 2 🙂
You know, I was on the fence about getting a VitaTV, but you bring up an awesome argument: Homebrew on TV! I was wondering if getting a VitaTV to play PSP/PSOne games was worth it (Currently, I play PSOne on my PS3, PSP games on my PSP Go, Homebrew on my PSP-1001 and PSP-2001, and Vita games on my Vita), but having all on one machine sounds interesting!
PS: Does “PSM Development Assistant” run on VitaTV?
You may rather consider buying an Android box for emulation… it can run PSone, NES, SNES, and even sometimes PSP games (through PPSSPP which is quite efficient, I must say). Plus, you have an open environment, cheaper…
Same can be done on a PSP Go, which has better PSP “emulation”.
Funny how Sony is on top of the vita having community but can’t prevent jackets from stealing credit cards. Priorities in the wrong place!
Let it go, the CC theft was over 4 years.
nothing can stop that from happening. 0day are keep by h4x0rz to their chest…
Who stole credit cards from where?
PSN was hacked and account information was stolen from 77 million accounts.
Sony gave away a couple games, a free month of PSN and identity theft protection to everyone.
True, i know, but all credit card information was encrypted. Even if they got that info through the hack, it wouldnt be useful.
Dat Troll
HAHA !
😀
It wasnt a troll attempt, if you mean what i wrote 🙂 I’m curious to which credit cards he mean that was stolen/hacked.
There was a credit card number leak from Sony a few years back. and there was a recent leak of massive ammounts of data from Sony Picrures not long ago.
Do you have a link to info about that leak? True about the Sony Pcitures hack, but i’m not sure if that had anything to do with credit cards, at least not consumer’s credit cards.
Nice post Z thanks for the heads up 😉
I knew that shimmer of hope vhbl 3.35 post is useless . hey crownable ty for the exploit man
Im not sure if you know how this works…..
Barely he can write a single line of code…
I’m going to do this in my own time. Now when i see comments like these I just feel like delaying more. 😀
The reason is that people don’t trust you much.
I am a programist, not a hacker – the reasons why I can’t do it. I understand the main concepts and schemes, but for me it’s kind difficult.
What do you want from a barely advanced users? ;D
P.S.
Can you teach me/us something?)
It doesn’t matter if u delay or release …cause we don’t give a fk abt your exploit even if you are fake
Dont act like a d!ck and do it yourself, if you are just going to complain.
I am calling Chirno for cooling stuff.
To be honest, I think Raiden is the best User of this Blog/Forum. Please, I want to see Raiden as Moderator…….
Nice try, Raidens 2nd account!
I think he is being sarcastic …idiot I don’t need fake accounts …and I remember u saying u r ( ahem ahem…. Qwikrazors bubbles are different to major toms ) if one gets patched we can use other …. Dude z plz get life we don’t need you and your pathetic YouTube tutorials….
+1 =)
>implying we will ever release the 2nd or 3rd trick for custom bubbles
And nice “gremmer brawksi” 😉
Im not sarcastic….trust me, i come on this forum just to take a look to your comments Raiden. XD Raiden = Inquisition in 2015
they relase new fw for preventing a bubbles .
what the heck is there problem its just a bubbles .
Whatever will we do
Thanks for a little update, Z. Heh, looks like some of our users might be a spy for Sony.. 😛 Gee, how else would they know about trying to block out the continuation of creating more custom bubbles on the PSVita so quick..
I only joined the vita scene in December with a nice new Vita 2000. Then, after only owning the thing for 2 weeks, reading everyone’s comments on forums made me go out and buy a 1000 as well…..it’s nice to have both the superior screen AND the battery life of the 2000 but now I just need to decide which one I will leave for hacking and playing around with, and which one I will update to use online. Decisions, decisions!
Use the 1000 for hacking. It makes an excellent guinea pig. Use the 2000 for online. Once you get use to the light controls, you’ll barely feel like playing online with the 1000.
True! To be honest, I was expecting more of a wow factor with the 1000 screen after watching comparison videos. It is better, but in my opinion, not so much better that if give up the extra battery life and weight of the 2000. I think the 2000 will be my every day vita as it lasts a lot longer on a charge. The 1000 will be the hacking toy!
Can you change names of those folders by ftp or no chance?
How could i run PSP and ps1 games on my psvita 3.35? I have to buy an exploit game? It’s really hard find a psn card on my country..
There is no public exploit game right now for 3.35 I believe. So stay on 3.35 for the time being and buy a psn card online when the time comes.
So.. i’m not gonna be able to hack my psvita to play another games?
change ur acc region and buy online
Custom bubbles doesn’t bother me 😀 im updating.
i don’t use my psvita anymore because i really like my smartphone (oneplus one)
hello wololo.
how can enter at the store with 3.18 version?
i tryed enter with charles proxi and with vita update blocker but this don,t work
You need PS3 to download anything now.
i haven,t ps3
ggrgrrrrrrr
It could be friends PS3
Im from Venezuela.. So i can’t pay or buy some cards x..x
what if threw filezilla and vita ftp we copy a psp2 folder with the home-brew eboot game folder into the vita root and just rename that to psp
could it work?
i hope the team for Custom Bubble will Release the hack for 3.35 i’m on 3.35 so please release it,
Maybe this update is related to the recent PS4/PSV launch delay in China? Just guessing.
Heard Sony will add region lock for Chinese PSV and block it from accessing other region’s PSN .
I am still on 3.18 and didn’t update.
At this moment, I play a lot of PSP ISO game with my 64GB card in my psv and sometimes buy 1-2 good psv game every month if I have money.
Backed up my vita onto my PS3, formatted my old memory card, put my new one in, went to restore vita from PS3….YLOD!! Wahhhhhhh!
It seems there is more to this patch then just fixing exploits, in fact Wifi download speed seems imensly improved. I just went from dl Atelier Ayesha estimated 300 min to estimated 30 min after my update on my PSTV. In fact I’ve never managed to dl a 2,9GB game in 30 min before.
Seems many other peopels are reporting Wifi download speed improvements.
all this ends when someone discovery a way to downgrade the firmware. Easy solution, like PSP old time. donwngrade for iso and update to psn. How about the psvita card dump? Nobody talk this nevermore… and a dump for psvita nand.???
i found this.
1) Launch VitaFTP on your Vita
2) Connect via FileZilla or something
3) rename “/PSP” to “/PSP.” press Enter
4) rename “/PSP.” to “/PSP2” press Enter
5) Do whatever you want
The reverse steps back to normal:
6) rename “/PSP2” to “/PSP.” press Enter
7) Press F5 to refresh and check if it worked

I find this interesting. If this works, AND the game exploit found by Crownable works for 3.36, then we may be able to launch VHBL on bubbles, and other programs as bubbles, on “still untouched” Vita on 3.36. That would be great.
Can anyone confirm that, at least, the abovementionned trick works ?
Are you trying to tell me… that Sony only made it impossible to change “PSP” to “PSP2”, and any other name is valid?
Good job, Sony devs. You really earned your paycheck on this update.
No, just PSP. works so far.
“Good job, Sony devs. You really earned your paycheck on this update.”
*Laugh*
Hey so um, how do I get into the inner dev loop for the most recent exploits? I’ve just gotten a vita and know my way around a hacked PS3, a hacked PSP, and a FreeMcBoot PS2. I can try and provide some help if I can get into the loop somehow…
I want to hang around for CFW to come out for 3.35, but I do enjoy being able to use the PSN features. Should I just hold out and wait? Or go ahead and update? I see mixed opinions about both, and I’m not totally sure myself what to do.
Also, is there a way to bypass the mandatory update for 3.36 so I can at least copy files to and fro my Vita and PC? Or will I need to wait for that as well?
I had a strong hunch they would stop that.
Can you still play online on old firmware?
I wonder what the mechanism is that’s preventing the rename. If it’s folder perms, it could be as simple as changing them. If it’s ownership.. I’m not quite sure what would need to happen. It might be necessary to obtain root access on this thing to actually make the necessary changes. Though, if we got root access it would be easy peasey to get other stuff loaded on here.
Though, I’ll admit I don’t know a whole lot about the Vita. I remember hearing a while back that it used some form of BSD Unix. My memory is very fuzzy on the subject, though
sucks… I had to update or I wouldn’t be able to play highschool dxd ;(
It’s funny though (and I believe someone already pointed it out) how sony cares more about vita hacking than vita itself…
Its kinda sad that you can go out and buy a opperating system for a computer than one of sonys better games personally i say screw it root access and find a way to reflash it with a the stock firmware intigrated with android im not a big fan of the bubles anyway a cyanogenmod ps vita now that sounds cool
so is ther an execyuatble with scp to do this bubble from pc automaticly ?
and a psp eboot with openssh-server and scp …
…
autobots!
the vita update blocker worked at 3.35
why don,t work at 3.36?
is necesary have python and mitmproxi?
Breaking news! Sony released PSP firmware 6.61!
http://kotaku.com/three-years-later-the-psp-gets-a-firmware-update-1679654471
Hey guys, returning wololo viewer / member blah blah blah guys :).
So I just received my PS Vita back from my little bro and its still in version 2.11. What should I do with the Vita currently, now that I have seen all this news? Any help would be appreciated. I know I should go on a forum, but this is the quickest way I can write up at the moment. Thanks!
Update to 3.18 manually? That seems like the relevant firmware to stick with for now and the one to be exploited before 3.35? Below may depend what firmware can use exploit for? If 3.18 is main focus up to because certain things not patched.
It’s obvious the proprietary memory cards and all the content control is what turns consumers off. I wonder if Sony realizes why the Vita isn’t selling so well especially compared to the 3DS? I’m guessing they do, but Sony would rather let the Vita die than let it be exploited again like what happened with the PSP, even though the anti-piracy policies is what holds the system back.
I thought the 3DS would be a cheaper alternative, but it turns out it isn’t. The 3DS hardware is complete *** and the games are overpriced, but Nintendo benefited a lot from Sony’s mistakes. The only thing that can save the Vita is a full proof native hack because Sony is not going to save the Vita. When is there going to be a full proof native hack on the Vita, who knows?
guys I’m sorry I know this is unrelated but I figured this would be a good place to ask regardless. it’s driving me crazy lol…
so if I do a factory reset on my vita 2000 does it get deactivated automatically or can I still use my card with my games and my account afterwards without deactivating the Vita at all?
I really really don’t want to deal with this activating deactivating thing especially as its all in japanese on my vita lol
help please!
I think something else changed too, apparantly some versions of OpenCMA no longer work. (since very recent) eg. my OpenCMA for my PS Vita 2.1 doesn’t work anymore (is this because of the 3.36 update or PSN update or ???) see: http://wololo.net/talk/viewtopic.php?f=54&t=41220
tenho psvita 3.36
