The Wololo Bloggers 2014 Game Of The Year
So, it’s that time of the year again where wherever you go all you can see is different peoples opinions of the best games plastered all over the place, so this year I thought, why can’t we do it? So we are! This article is what us guest bloggers & Wololo thought were the best games this year!
Well, I’d definitely like to know what your game of the year is, and your opinion of what our choices were! let us know what you think!
Minimur12 – South Park: The Stick of Truth
I know it’s easy just to roll off what the last new gen game you played was and roll it off as Goty (Like hgoel has 😉 ). But it’s games like this that just slip under the radar, and quite a few people forget about them.
This game was probably the funniest game I’ve ever played, like, ever. With the amount of references to the show as well made it a fans dream come true, the humour was just as amazing, crude, along with scenes that would embarrass you if someone else saw them, just like the TV show has (watch the video, which is one of many scenes).
If you haven’t played this game yet, you should definitely pick it up, it’s a no-brainer, if you do, get either the PC or US version, the EU console version is censored on some pretty important parts due to it being so disgustingly funny (It involves aliens and NSFW toys).
Well that screen preview is a bit awkward…. (my point about the game entirely)
In any case. you really should get this game. Minimur out.
The Z – Pokemon Alpha Sapphire & Omega Ruby
The new Hoenn region remakes of the Pokemon games are my favorite game for the year 2014. I know those were only released a month ago, but the Hoenn region has always been my favorite Pokemon region so far (Emerald ftw!), and Pokemon has been a huge part of my childhood. It just feels amazing to see my favorite region in a new glory. The Nintendo 3DS might not have as good graphics as the PS Vita, but the Pokemon games by themselves were worth the purchase of a Nintendo 3DS.
I also had the opportunity to get a press kit of Omega Ruby, which I had to review to keep it, and I have to say that this game got a great score (95%) by me. It would have gotten 100% if it would’ve incorporated all of the Emerald content, but it did only have some of the Emerald content. Nonetheless these are the best Pokemon games since ever!
Review:
Heleius – Danganronpa 1&2
Yeah, maybe it’s 2 games but I look at them like 1.
Japanese high school kids killing each other with a psychotic robot bear & the best villain ever. ‘Nuff said.
JD8531 – Insurgency
While my first choice would be The Last of Us Remastered I figured that wouldn’t be too fair to pick it twice in a row. Surprisingly my GOTY this year is an odd choice. The follow-up version to the famous sourcemod, Insurgency, was released earlier this year and its incredibly fun. The game blends the right amount of strategy, realism and that Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare atmosphere to create a really immersive game that builds one of the greatest FPS’ in recent memory.
2014 was a lack luster year in games but 2015 is looking very promising. There are a ton of games Im looking forward to like Witcher 3, Arkham Knight, The Order, The Division ect. But the game I really looking forward to is Star Wars: Battlefront 3; its been way, way too long.
Hgoel0974 – Assassins Creed: Unity
Assassin’s Creed: Unity was great because of the amount of effort they put into the game. Personally, I didn’t mind the bugs too much because they were bound to be there. Considering how fluid the animations are and how the freerunning mechanics have been improved, it’s totally understandable that there’d be bugs in them (after all, it isn’t very simple to implement). The new combat controls made the entire stealth side of being an assassin more important than before. Since you couldn’t just counter kill everyone as easily, stealth became far more important in Unity than before which coupled with the better stealth and freerunning mechanics made it extremely enjoyable. Additionally, the story is just great, it fits in with the entire idea of being in an animus playing the memories of an ancestor. At certain parts you actually think “Wait, why is Arno doing this, shouldn’t he have reported to the council first?”, finding out later that indeed, Arno was supposed to report but he instead acted on his own. To me, this fits the animus story because it makes you feel like the spectator to Arno’s life.

Wololo – Towerfall Ascension
Technically, Towerfall is a 2013 game (it was an Ouya exclusive for 6 months), but it got released on PS4 in 2014 with a few updates, under the name “Towerfall Ascension”. I’m not your typical “Indie fanboy” (although it’s likely I am biased given my personal experience with Homebrews), so let me state this simply: Towerfall isn’t just “oh, it’s an ok game but let’s give it some additional thumbs up because it’s indie”. No, it’s one of the best party multiplayer games I’ve played in more than 20 years as a gamer. Interestingly, after hours of game I found that the PS4 plays it more smoothly than the OUYA. It’s tough to describe Towerfall in a few sentences, but I can guarantee it’s instant fun if you have a group of friends at your place and want to play, even for just a few minutes. Even non gamers loved this game as soon as they picked up a controller.
People tend to compare it to “worms on steroids”, or, for a more recent reference, Smash Bros.
See you next year, folks! What are your favorite games of 2014?
