Latest update and status of the Vita “bubble” hack
Yesterday, Katsu posted a series of steps and screenshots on how to create your own “bubble” on the PS Vita.
The technique requires to have a PS Vita running VHBL (or a custom firmware such as TN-V), and a PS3. After a series of manipulations involving renaming some files, adding a few others, backing-up some content from the Vita to the PS3 and vice versa, one is able to change the icon and name of a game they own on the Vita, as can be seen in katsu’s screenshots. You can find all the details here.
For now this technique only seems to allow to change the icon and “name” of a game you purchased from the PSN, but katsu promised “homebrews” would be coming soon.
I’ve myself been in touch with Qwikrazor87 on his own work with these “bubbles”, and rumor has it that Total_Noob is also working on some similar feature for a future release of TN-V. Qwikrazor87, in particular, has been making steady progress on this: over the past few weeks, Qwikrazor87 has found that he can do much more than was initially thought with his technique.
Although some of his work involves file manipulation similar to what katsu has been showcasing, Qwikrazor has also been hard at work testing a variety of homebrews with his work, a step which required lots of tweaking to be widely compatible (static ELFs support, etc…). He’s also found techniques that allow a “duplication” of bubbles: the initial technique required to “waste” a PSP Mini for each homebrew you’d want to run. This wasn’t a big deal, people would just choose to run TN-V or VHBL as their “psp mini”, then run their favorite homebrew or isos from there. But now the possibility to run all homebrew directly from the Live Area sounds like even a better deal.
Long story short, I’ve seen with my own eyes this technique running PSP isos and homebrews directly from the Live Area screen. Not only an icon and a name change. But there’s still work ongoing, and releasing “explanations” like what katsu has done today could run the risk of Sony patching this trick prematurely.
Qwikrazor’s technique also requires an exploitable game. Installing the bubbles requires an initial “hack” that can only be run with an exploited game. That game is only needed to install the bubbles initially, but not later on to actually launch the bubble games. In a sense, it means making the method public could also be seen as a waste: if it requires an exploit in the first place, why wouldn’t people just use the exploit to run homebrews with the regular VHBL, instead of using this technique (I mean, true, it is convenient…)
The video below showcases Qwikrazor’s bubbles running a few homebrews on my 3.35 vita: FTP Vita, PSP Filer, and Wagic.

Well now….
How exciting! But i dont have a ps3 🙁
I don’t have VHBL or TN-V and also PS3, I just kept my Vita on FW 3.18…… waiting for Webkit exploit
Great..! Got a PSvita with TNV…and a PS3…making some bubbles this night.!! Question! Ps3 must have “something else”? Or just a natural ps3…
I can confirm that this this will work without using a PS3 and with fw 3.18 & below. But, because I can’t deal with games that are not drm free I cannot confirm that katsu’s technique can lauch a signed homebrew. I also don’t have a PS3.
Katsu claims that he can launch the PBOOT.PBP’s contents instead of the original EBOOT.PBP. This PBOOT.PBP should first be signed as compatible with FW6.60 though(I think there is no public method for that).
@katsu, atleast show us a video that you can actually launch the content other than the one in the original EBOOT.PBP.
Why this fascination with the PSP emulator? When are we going to see some Vita homebrew like gpVita, a GBA emu running at full Vita speed?
Have you started working on those emulators yet? The world is waiting for you to make the first move.
best reply ever.
I wish I could upvote this comment.
I second this! Wololo you need a reddit comment system

What about for cfw ps3? is there a way without going online?
Sucks that you’d still need vhbl to use these. I thought the whole point was that you don’t need to purchase another exploit game. I had one (can’t remember which) in the 2.xx days but I’ve since updated to 3.01.
Will it work on an unactivated ps vita?
Not work
The dupllication techinique is really easy, you can fill your livearea with as many duplicate bubbles as you want (I remember there is a 100 bubble limit and of course your storage capacity). Yes, that’s a hint.
This way you can launch all the hombrews/ISOs you want in the livearea using only one pspgame to override. They all have one thing in common which makes them possible to launch in the first place.
How dupllication ??v
This technique is still useless until the devs release the actual overriding method. So, It is better just to wait for them. Although, I think I must have already disclosed that one before. But nah, it’s still useless at the moment and I know that Sony knows this one.
A month from now, the devs might release it. hopefully.
OK thank!!
Fascinating stuff!
LOL STUFF need ps3 hahahaha….
Does this require a PS3 with internet connection, I have a PSV and a PS3 but don’t have internet at home.. 🙁
And also, I only have Travel Talkman xploit.

I also know a way to create homebrew bubble’s without Ps3 but i cant tell it it is qwiks exploit 🙂 and i promise him to not share it
Last time I tried connecting my Vita to my PS3, it made the PS3 act weird demanding it be Upgraded. Not to mention, if you are running CFW, you can not really have PSN Access. I had to Downgrade to 3.55 then return back to Rebug in order to fix my PS3.
bUbbles
Sigh ….still no release …fk these teases
Please change the title to last update on Ps vita bubbles . and stop fkng teasing people
Buy Games! Support The Developers!!!
you should give a hint for those who are in 3.35 to learn more heheh want hehehe bubble thanyou eo spain
Thanks from Spain for your work at the scene vita
I thought for the bubble hack that it doesn’t require for us to purchase a game but now later it does require an exploitable game becuz i really confused right now???
not a perticular game exactly….u can use any mini iguess. just change some files to make vita belive its running legit game.. clever deception indeed
lol.
Wagic on PSV! Yes!
Which games are exploitable on 3.35 for this bubble hack?
So wait. I thought the custom bubbles wasn’t going to require an exploit game. Nowhere prior had it been mentioned that an exploit game would be necessary. Now I feel like we were fed inaccurate, or at least incomplete information that has led to false expectations. For those of us without a PS3 to use, it sounds like, once again, we’re out of luck and just get to wait and hope that the web exploit yields something. Honestly, custom bubbles almost sounds like a mess of not worth it now. It sounded like it would be different from previous game exploits, but it’s sounding more like it’s just a slightly different way of doing the same thing that’s been done for years now.
This does not require a PS3 (at least not ‘our’ version of the bubbles. Katsus are incomplete are purely cosmetical, while ours are fully functional), and it requires an exploit game ONCE for setup.
Either set it up on a lower FW Vita (or a second Vita with the same account), create a backup with CMA and restore the backup onto your other Vita.
Or wait for an exploit for 3.3x, set up the bubble and then dont bother with the exploit anymore.
Up until this point I have been fine with the waiting…. but now it just seems like anyone who even gets a whiff of what is going on (or worse yet… access and then bragging about access to something they didn’t create), posts a video/ screenshot, and then sits back stroking their *** while the rest of us plebs sit in the corner sulking. Here’s hoping for a good Christmas… everyone who has it enjoy till it’s and please leave the *** teases out.
They said that we needed an exploit game just to create the bubbles. After that we could delete the exploit since it is not needed to run the homebrew/ISO’s. My question is, for those of us that are on 3.18, are we able to use the exploit games that are already running on our Vitas to create these bubbles?
Yes.
Could it be possible, to run a homebrew, that is a homebrew loading menu? That you use only one bubble to start the loader menu and this loads homebrew out of a whole directory?
Why yes, that works.
Wagic is ***.
yes sir i agree with you….
atleast people can try try …u guys keep u r method and releae it when it is patched and very few people with two vitas can use this trick . what good is the release when it is patched?
thks.um notice ps3 got a new update thinks its 4.66.
well wasawhilesince i got to playing with myvita wassaposedtoget a new laptop maybe mom can getmea newone for christmas.
u guys no this waskinduf old stuff ooh and sony had an update that added themes for the vita.
So,basically we can use any psp or psp mini to start the setup for the bubble hack (qwikrazor87) right???
PS3 has an update…anyone know if it will patch the bubbles?
I just installed the an exploit game and TN-V10 just so I can make some bubbles. 🙂
Now, how do I make the FTP bubble as thats the first homebrew I install as its the most useful and used.
So any chance we will be able to use Patapon 2 for this exploit?
great job however…
any hope for 3.30 bubbles without a ps3?
i have a intresting idea if someone have the time to contact me. skype shamanus7; shamanus7@yahoo.com; psn : microsad_stef
