Nintendo 3DS Exploit game revealed! – Smealum’s exploit game is…
… the Nintendo 3DS game ‘Cubic Ninja‘!
Smealum said that it does not matter if you are using the retail (cartridge) version of the game, or if you buy it from the Nintendo eShop. Smea added that the game only exists in the japanese eShop, so a retail cartridge will to be your choice for this exploit, I assume.
The game is usually around 7€/10$, but this will most likely change very very soon! (Note from wololo: in Japan the game can be found around 1800 to 3000 yen)
Keep in mind that retail versions of exploit games will be sold out very fast and people will buy multiple versions of the game to re-sell them for double or thrice the price!
The exploit should be working with any kind of regional version of the game, be it a northern american, an european, a german, a japanese or an australian version.
It should work as long as your 3DS region matches the games region (e.g. an european 3DS with an european 3DS game).
But what can we do with it, and which firmwares and devices does it support?
This is a classic savedata exploit, like we know it from our beloved PS Vita or from the older days of the PSP. You have to buy (retail or digital shop version) a necessary exploit game in order to run the exploit on your device.
You can NOT download it for free from the internet and people can not share their version of the game with you, if they have a digital version (retail works, though).
You HAVE TO BUY the exploit game, otherwise you can not use this exploit on your Nintendo 3DS.
The exploit is confirmed to work on all Nintendo 3DS system software versions, as of version 9.2.0-20, and should also support any of the hardware revisions of the ‘3DS family’.
This would include the Nintendo 3DS, 3DS XL, 2DS, New 3DS and the New 3DS XL. Basically any Nintendo handheld device that can play 3DS games is supported.
But what can we do with this exploit?
If you remember the Wii Homebrew channel, which is a similar styled launcher, for all kind homebrews, as our well known VHBL, then you will most likely know what the 3DS Homebrew launcher will be able to do.
Smealum’s exploit is a userland exploit that allows us to execute homebrews via the 3DS Homebrew channel. It does not enable piracy in form of NDS or 3DS ROMs, but it will enable you to use cool homebrews and classic emulators for older systems, e.g. St4rk’s 3DNES emulator.
What else it will enable you to do on your 3DS will be known when the files have been officially released.
Those files will be released in near future, similar to our behavior with keeping the files for a few days, until Sony removes the ninja release exploit games.
We will inform you when the files have been released and will explain how to actually use the files and execute the exploit on your Nintendo 3DS device.
This truely has been a cubical ninja release, ehh? No one..? Okay.

Sony?
SONY!
lol

There’s a point getting this if I have already a gateway ?
Bough it just in case…
Nope.. who cares about homebrew anyway, main reason anyone bought gateway is piracy.
On a powerful system like the 3DS? SO many people will care about homebrew.
I have to disagree. I love Nintendo and wouldn’t pirate from them. Especially since the emulator games are pretty cheap as is. I would like to play super nintendo games on my 3ds though. or add custom skins to smash bros for my offline play, or use cheats with some of my other games like Kirby or Monster Hunter 3 Ult.
Love cheat codes for offline play. haha
“until Sony removes the ninja release exploit games.”
Sony? Someone is traumatized…
Go back, and read it in its context.
Makes perfect sense.
On US store that game cost 40 dollars O_o
Cheers for the heads up, just bought cubic ninja for a tenner off Amazon 🙂
Game is available in North America. Canada to be exact in eshop worth $39.99
corrected- retail
I just got a copy from Amazon.ca for 27$
Fast!! here’s the cheapest so far =)
http://www.play-asia.com/cubic-ninja-paOS-13-49-en-70-47fb.html
just found it on amazon for 16.31 us dollars
$6.99 on bestbuy’s website, and they’re new.
hey guys just wanted to ask since the exploit works with the latest firmware 9.2.0-20, should i upgrade or stay at current 4.3 firmware. What do you guys recommend.
Never update your 3ds beyond 4.5!
Keep your 4.3 firmware. A bunch of DS-mode flashcarts were blocked in FW4.5, so if you want to use Acekard2i for example, FW4.4 is your maximum.
Cubic Ninja itself requires FW1.x (1.1 iirc).
I hope it’ll be just the the Wii homebrew channel and someone find a way to run backups as that’s what is needed. 99% of people will get this for the ability to play backups so there will be a lot of disappointed people soon when they find out they can’t run any backups. Thats until an awesome dev releases the way to play backups with this.
There are awesome devs out there who will get it working, now let’s hope it doesn’t take to long.
Going to gamestop tomorrow to see if I can find another used copy of the game for dirt cheap.
Can somebody provide the point of this exploit to owners of sky3ds or soon to be upgraded GW. Since both cards read as REAL carts in 9.x for running, and are even region locked, just like a real cart, why not flash the cart with cubic ninja, why purchase an original cubic ninja?
Because this one supports homebrew where, at least this is my understanding, none of the new flashcarts do. At all.
@nothype: good question. Your suggestion could work…
3 things, A save file can’t test itself for source and you can’t modify the main game and OFW will just boot the image, nothing changes from todays behavior. If it works, then telling everyone to buy a ubisoft game even if they don’t need it is just selling games for ubisoft, and no longer about just the exploit.
Better buy an ubisoft game for 10$ than giving gateway money.
Those pr!cks were those that released an intentional (!) 3DS bricking software, which rendered a lot of devices useless!
They do not deserve a single cent.
will you pay $300?
http://i.imgur.com/q32SAxx.png
I paid 2x 4,50€ and 7€ for shipping for the game.
I paid a bit more than 15€ for 2 versions of the game and was able to sell the “spare one” for a reasonable price to I make a bit of profit.
If you actively follow the scene you can get those games for less than 20 bucks, if they werent more expensive in the first place.
It’ s all about options.
There can be situations when just running homebrew is enough and using GW/Sky will be an overkill. Cubic Ninja (if bought used for a fraction of GW/Sky price) is a convenient solution that will free up GW/Sky for use on another vulnerable 3DS.
Or you could install cubic ninja image as a .cia to homescreen of your 4.5 3ds, let it sleep/hot charge in GW mode so it is always available to be launched without the GW inserted and have the gateway in the new3ds. Still a moot point to need an original cubic ninja cart.
>Still a moot point to need an original cubic ninja cart.
Not quite, because not owning the game makes .cia method clearly illegal (not that owning it automatically makes this legal in every legislation I think, but if you’re interested in homebrew, you’re probably interested in not breaking any laws).
Also, CFW is buggy enough as it is, who knows how the exploit is going to work there.
Completely pointless, one update from Nintendo and it’s gone.
…That’s why you don’t update?
You must be new to this…
Bought it pre owned £5 🙂
Can I ask how this does not prevent piracy? Surely somebody could simply make a backup loader like the wii home-brew channel lets you launch backup loaders?
Rephrase: How this will prevent piracy?**
It prevents piracy as the VHBL prevents piracy:
It is simply not powerful enough to run warez backups.
But the HBL for the wii was eventually used to install updates and custom … everything. Are you saying the 3DS HBL will be unable to mod the system in any way?
Great coverage on this. If wololo starts doing 3DS coverage I won’t have to check other sites anymore just this one for my homebrew needs!
It’s 6.99 for a new copy at bestbuy . com! Just got 2 copies.
Damn it …in Germany it’s much more expensive. ^^
Price multiplied by 2.5 in a few hour? LOL… What a bunch of sl*t.
Wonder if it’d be possible to hook into whatever the 3DS uses for the GBA games and get a good emulator up and running… I’ve been itching to be able to play Golden Sun on a Nintendo handheld again, and my DS Lite’s hinge is borked.
Google “Gameboy Macro” and see if you fancy doing that Mod to your borked hinge DS, some of those look awesome, if a little time consuming 🙂
Just thinking will the rom work with the sky3ds to get the homebrew loader?
Yes – I got a copy of it in Germany! THX für info! 8)
10 € 8)
Where did you get it here in Germany?
Amazon.de 😉
if want it – feel free to contact me! 😉
finally ps1 emulation on 3ds
when vita exploit will be released :3
“cubic NINJA RELEASE” ^_^
Well, cheapest on Amazon.co.uk currently is just over £50, all the online outlets I can think of are out of stock and just went to town to find one…. nothing there either 🙁
Will be 3ds have chance of runing N64 rooms? Because im buy this game just for this.. When i want play genesis per exemple, i use the dstwo. And i like this way. But dont run N64 roms..
I just want a homebrew gba emulator! 😀 Pokemon rom hacks FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It cost me $35 but I just got my copy from play asia 😉 Now tomorrow I’m gonna loot every video game shop in town to get copies for all my mates lol
All I ask is to be able to run region locked games.
Although that doesn’t seem likely to happen.
I dunno about that, Smealum explicitly said that he wanted to make it so that you could play region-locked games on 3DS’ from different regions.
http://www.ozgameshop.com appears to have the AU/EU version for aud$22ish.
No piracy? Hm I can wait
So it’s just a theory of my own… I have a Gateway and if I install Cubic Ninja rom in and run the hacked files on it meaning I can get this hack as well… right?
Probably, but if you have a gateway card I’m not sure I see the point, since Gateway already supports homebrew? On the other hand, with the newly released Sky3DS, it could make some sense…
GW’s vanilla 9.2 update will mimic sky3ds, so in vanilla form doesn’t have homebrew or region free in 9.2 mode unless this exploit is triggered or included in GW final build
YEAH, i got a cancel of my order from the first shop.
I bought it for 13,-€ and 2 hours later, they sold it for about 35,-€.
A little bit later …they cancel my order.
I HATE THEIR GREED!
I just bought two copies for 30$ at ebgames canada. They told me that the game it been recall, so they don’t have the new ones, just recycled.
i just found it brand new at a Fred’s Super Dollar Store for $20. It seriously is the only copy in this whole town
cubic NINJA realease
the bad pun is ztrong with this one.
I got mine late night from GameStop for 4.49 woo hoo…….
Early news on this site implies it’s possible to open this up to kernel access and backups, although neither is built in. Smealum’s tone suggests that’s not possible, although that could just be to distance himself from such possibilities.
SO, BEFORE THIS SHOOTS UP TO $80 ON AMAZON, IS IT POSSIBLE (AT ALL) FOR OTHER CODERS TO OPEN ANY OF THIS TO KERNEL ACCESS OR BACKUPS? If not, I bet a lot of buyers will be disappointed, after expecting something else and paying $25-$80.
