If only one could use the PS TV on the go… DekaVita makes this possible!
Have you ever had a desire to play PS Vita games on the go? And no, I am not talking about the PSP Go, but about a portable PS TV, something that you can carry around with you, to play your favorite PS TV games while you are outside.
If you now think about a regular PS Vita, then you thought wrong*! Introducing: The DekaVita!
DekaVita – Its features!
A japanese company called GameTech has created a product, which can transform your Playstation TV (also known as PS Vita TV) into a portable device.
You heard right, this basically adds the missing parts that the PS TV is lacking: A build-in screen, build-in buttons to control it and some other things.
The screen of the DekaVita is 7 inches, so it is 2 inches bigger than the portable Sony PS Vita counterpart, but it does not have the touch screen capability.
The DekaVita does support HDMI, it also supports to be used as a PS3 controller and also supports PS4 RemotePlay (since it is still a PS TV).
DekaVita² – Its downsides!
The website of the DekaVita also claims to have some other superior functions, like the design, the battery life and that this enables the device to be used via HDMI and as a PS3 controller, but now let us take a look at the downsides:
The price is one of the downsides. It costs 23.000¥ (currently reduced to 19.800¥), but that is without taxes are applied. So expect to pay even more.
Those numbers would ‘translate’ into ~160€ or ~200$, which is a pretty hefty price for an add-on, that ‘transforms’ your PS TV into a portable PS Vita like device, just worse.
The PS TV, special cables for using it via HMDI or as PS3 controller, and a PS4, for using it for RemotePlay, are of course not included, so you only get the add-on itself (and maybe a charger for it) for that amount of money.
The question that occured the second I’ve seen this device is, ‘why not use a regular PS Vita instead?’, and that question is still valid.
DekaVita³ – Why not use a regular PS Vita?
Not only the concept of a portable version of a stationary version of a portable device (The DekaVita, a portable PS TV, requires a PS TV, which is a stationary version of the portable PS Vita) is bizarre, but the upsides and downsides are not even either.
If we leave the price aside, we would still have a portable PS Vita, with a slightly larger screen, a bulkier appearance, without touch screen and the same whitelist that the regular PS TV is bound to.
This would be a worse PS Vita than the regular PS Vita, at best.
The regular PS Vita does everything better: It might has a smaller, ‘only’ 5 inch, screen, but otherwise the regular Vita beats the DekaVita in every category.
Why would you pay twice as much for a DekaVita, that has maybe 2-3 advantages over the regular PS Vita, if you can get two PS Vita for the same price, which both are portable, have a touch screen, have cameras and support all PS Vita games there are.
What are your thoughts about the DekaVita? I think it might be a cool concept, but a portable stationary portable device might be a bit too weird.

Furst ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
to get raped by a donkey.
sick burn.
(*_*)
bizaare….
This is the most pointless thing I have ever seen.
Agree
Indeed, why would someone put the effort in to make this?
Can’t use hulu on regular vita, only ps tv, but still, why, i have hulu on my ps3, pc, 3ds and phone, but for someone, maybe they’ll want it, but i think it’s craptastic
its not totally useless i guess
it might be useful for those who have a vita tv because they prefer playing on the big screen and vita doesnt have HDMI out
so they can slide in the vita tv into dekavita anytime for a portable experience
agree
Useless portable device. In this case u have to carry both dekavita and ps tv to use as portable. Waste of money
You don’t need to “carry both” of them. You slide the TV into the back of the DekaVita and away you go.
You want to play your portable games on a portable system buy a PSP, a Vita, or a 3DS. This is just ***
That’s the whole point of it. The stupidity of the concept makes it brilliant!
I would love to play games that were meant to be played on a portable device that plays on a stationary device and make that stationary device portable. I say this is genius!
It’s brilliant! Sony will never see it coming. This DekaVita will lead us into a new age of… something, I’m sure.
i was looking at one of these, would be great with a raspberry PI, but just get a normal vita, not this thing
I can’t touch from…. behiiiiind
is a pointless gadget for win money
If it had HDMI out, then maybe, MAYBE it could be useful, play on your TV with your DS4, and just unplug the thing when you want to go out.
As it stands, it’s pretty pointless, and kinda funny, kinda like the good old rumor of a UMD drive for the PSP Go 😛
Umd for psp go was a pap with bluthooth lol.
Psp with bluthooth u need a psp with the custume firmware that lets u use the usb on the psp with a hard drive.
What time to be alive .
This would be cool if the PS TV wasn’t utter garbage
lul wut
I could have seen this done by a hobbyist, kind of as a joke but to actually try to sell this is ridiculous…
The only upside I could see to this is the fact that you can use a DS3 instead of the Vita’s arguably awful layout.
Still though. Strange.
Man if only Sony thought of that to begin with…
Oh wait.
“Have you ever had a desire to play PS Vita games on the go”
I thought that was the point.
That’sthejoke
Uhhh, ya I’ll pass. Like somebody else said PS/Vita TV is garbage.
Playing portable games, on portable system, that was made out of the portable system, with and ad on that makes it portable system. Is this Inception in portable system o.O
portable system count in portable : 7
the z, we are still waiting for the bubbles homebrew install, i hope it be soon. I updated my vita to 3.35 so i cannot run homebrew :(.
***..if u scouted forums for a little http://wololo.net/talk/viewtopic.php?p=370260#p370260 you will found out a lot of thing’s. Think before u act…
Think or search? , not all of us Are at the forum all day like you, we have a life , think before u write “angry snake, ;).
All day ? Think ? you know have fun with vita on 3.35 🙂
Learn how to use the search bar. Its not rocket science, Alooo..
TIL spending 5 minutes searching for a bit of information means you spend all day on the forums and have no life.
Honestly…. it looks cheap.. it reminded me of a post of the “hoax PSP” that sells for $20.
Inception?
I want it is a lot better than vita being able to use HDMI and 7 inch screen i would pay 200 for it in the U.S
silly, ugly, and pointless, but someone out there probably gonna buy that.
if someone could cram a ps4 into working portable console at size of dekavita7, i would buy it.
even a portable ps3
lolololololol this guy
Not that hard jus the ps3 would need like laptop parts lol.
btw… someone could sue them because yknow dekavita is a name of a drink product
They didn’t trademark the name.
Only stupid people will buy it
Worst idea ever
A novelty is all it is.
The only thing that interest me about this is the physical r2 l2 buttions biseds that whats the point
this can be awesome if there is touch screen and it plays all vita games
Usb touch screen. But heard since the vita tv got no touch screen is at most games for the vita don’t normally work on it.
This is awesome loving the r2 buttons hope the make a adaptor for psvita to add that
The control and buttons are very interesting but… Do you want to buy it? I’m not sure…
“a portable version of a stationary version of a portable device” =)
Physical L2/R2 is great. No news about L3/R3 but probably they are there too.
This wouldve been much better had they used an actual Vita as base(read: just add hdmi output, bigger screen(with touchscreen ofc), and L2/R2/L3/R3 buttons). Yes, it would up the price, but at least it would make somewhat sense.
As it is now its just pointless.
Sega CD 32X anyone?

Or the first model:

Instead of making great games… sony make only console but no games? Ps vita, ps vita slim, ps vita tv, and now this… 4 same handled console, but without games. Sony is very *** now lol
“deka” is a shorter way to say “dekai”– Both of which mean “large” or “huge” in Japanese.
The name of this product is literally “HugeVita”…. ***
i am not westing my mony on that :-w
Also… the only point I can see to this product?
Sony said “F that” to the video out port (aka the “mystery port”) on the 1st gen vitas, instead offering a stationary only device as their answer….
….Well, this product would give you the convenience (?) of having a portable that could also be hooked up to a TV… at the cost of size and a huge percentage of the game library…
I’m certain that this is their angle with it, but it’s a very ridiculous way to send a message to Sony. Just give us our video out cable for the 1st gen vitas… lol
This could be useful for LP’s
I know you could just have a regular PS TV and watch at the TV screen while playing.
But I’m more the fan of mobile devices, having the screen right next to the buttons etc.
