If only one could use the PS TV on the go… DekaVita makes this possible!
Have you ever had a desire to play PS Vita games on the go? And no, I am not talking about the PSP Go, but about a portable PS TV, something that you can carry around with you, to play your favorite PS TV games while you are outside.
If you now think about a regular PS Vita, then you thought wrong*! Introducing: The DekaVita!
DekaVita – Its features!
A japanese company called GameTech has created a product, which can transform your Playstation TV (also known as PS Vita TV) into a portable device.
You heard right, this basically adds the missing parts that the PS TV is lacking: A build-in screen, build-in buttons to control it and some other things.
The screen of the DekaVita is 7 inches, so it is 2 inches bigger than the portable Sony PS Vita counterpart, but it does not have the touch screen capability.
The DekaVita does support HDMI, it also supports to be used as a PS3 controller and also supports PS4 RemotePlay (since it is still a PS TV).
DekaVita² – Its downsides!
The website of the DekaVita also claims to have some other superior functions, like the design, the battery life and that this enables the device to be used via HDMI and as a PS3 controller, but now let us take a look at the downsides:
The price is one of the downsides. It costs 23.000¥ (currently reduced to 19.800¥), but that is without taxes are applied. So expect to pay even more.
Those numbers would ‘translate’ into ~160€ or ~200$, which is a pretty hefty price for an add-on, that ‘transforms’ your PS TV into a portable PS Vita like device, just worse.
The PS TV, special cables for using it via HMDI or as PS3 controller, and a PS4, for using it for RemotePlay, are of course not included, so you only get the add-on itself (and maybe a charger for it) for that amount of money.
The question that occured the second I’ve seen this device is, ‘why not use a regular PS Vita instead?’, and that question is still valid.
DekaVita³ – Why not use a regular PS Vita?
Not only the concept of a portable version of a stationary version of a portable device (The DekaVita, a portable PS TV, requires a PS TV, which is a stationary version of the portable PS Vita) is bizarre, but the upsides and downsides are not even either.
If we leave the price aside, we would still have a portable PS Vita, with a slightly larger screen, a bulkier appearance, without touch screen and the same whitelist that the regular PS TV is bound to.
This would be a worse PS Vita than the regular PS Vita, at best.
The regular PS Vita does everything better: It might has a smaller, ‘only’ 5 inch, screen, but otherwise the regular Vita beats the DekaVita in every category.
Why would you pay twice as much for a DekaVita, that has maybe 2-3 advantages over the regular PS Vita, if you can get two PS Vita for the same price, which both are portable, have a touch screen, have cameras and support all PS Vita games there are.
What are your thoughts about the DekaVita? I think it might be a cool concept, but a portable stationary portable device might be a bit too weird.
I think is better to make a portable playstation 2 or playstation 3 instead of something that is already portable.
repricing it to ~$40 might be more convincing.. considering the whitelisted games part.. regular vita $199.. vitatv with portability $139.. well if that’s the case, then it would be a great deal. but with its current price, it is a very bad deal.
Do you have any idea how much even a small screen costs? You can’t pick up even a crappy 3-inch full-color screen for much less than $40. A high-quality 7 inch HD screen for $40 is out of the question.
Yeah, no, I wouldn’t pay more for a system accessory than I do for the system itself.
The mystery port on the 1st gen vita’s – does anyone know for sure if it was to be an hdmi port? and would the signal be encoded in some way (a la sony) or just a straight hdmi feed?
Please, if it were a proprietary signal then it would not be readable by TVs unless you had some sort of man in the middle decoding the signal before it was passed to the TV, which would introduce lag.
If this device, dekavita, keeps itself on standby mode using the battery to keep the whitelist in the system updated to play vita games on-the-go without turning off, then it might be alright because then you could play the vita games anywhere that need a higher firmware as long as you don’t turn off the system.. but still I don’t believe it’s worth getting.
Well I was thinking about making the vita tv portable for a reason so this does sound cool. The dev even got like r3 and l3 buttons so that’s real cool.
I like that shape of it looks like it seems prety comfortable.
This post gave me cancer
I read every single comment and not a single person has talked about what this device seems to me like it was most likely designed for.
The main reason playing ps4 games remotely on the vita isn’t as good as playing on the real thing or with a real ds4 controller is because the ps vita doesn’t have r2 l2 r3 l3.
The dekavita or “hugevita” would be perfect for someone that was looking for a better ps4 remote play experience than what the vita itself is able to provide. You can use velcro or rubber bands to attach your controller to your vita and the trick that makes all of that work but then you lose the portability that the vita offers and you have to charge up two devices.
I could see myself using this around the house to play ps4 games over the vita if I had both sitting right next to each other. Yes I agree that it’s over priced, yes I agree it looks bulky, yes I agree that it will probably work terribly as a means to play vita games, but you have to think of all the marks they hit that sony missed as far as providing you with an option for a more genuine portable playstation experience. This has everything people complained that the vita didn’t have and left out all the things that the haters would call gimmicks or things that they would say “hard core” gamers don’t need like the front and back touch screen or cameras for ar.
Long story short, this has huge ps4 remote play potential. More so even than the original vita in my opinion.
If you already have a PS4 at your house then wouldn’t it be a lot more practical to just use the ds4?
If I can connect my ps3 to the dekavita , I might get a portable screen to play on the go !!!!
Which isn’t so bad I think , since portable screen tend to cost a lot more and do not have a gamepad included .

if sony built a vita xl like 3ds ,i’ll get it
it would be awsome to have a portable ps tv. i had so many weird ideas other than this like getting a plastic case and buying a 50000 mah battery and a 7 inch lcd with hdmi and all these crazy ideas but now they have somthing beter.
guys why does these comments look fake?
