How to use PS4 remote play on any android smartphone and tablet (by jeremylars)
Note from Wololo: This tutorial was initially published by /Talk member jeremylars, as part of our monthly tutorial contest. Jeremylars won the best PS4 tutorial prize (a $10 PSN Code) for his entry. You can find the original post here.
Through this tutorial you will learn how to enable remote play on any android smartphone and tablet even if it isn’t a Sony product.
Read the whole tutorial once before starting to avoid inconvenience or misunderstanding.
You will need :
- A smartphone or tablet on Android 4.0 in CFW (no matter which one).
- Your smartphone must be ROOT.
- Your smartphone must have a CWM RECOVERY or TWRP.
- A PS4
Now follow these steps :
- Download this pack which contains all the necessary files.
- Extract the pack archive you just downloaded to your desktop.
- Open the folder of the extracted file.
- Open the folder “files to flash via RECOVERY”.
- Copy the file, PS4 Remote Play Port 4.0 + zip to your smartphone to the root folder:
Android/SDCARD - Restart your smartphone in RECOVERY mode.
- Via RECOVERY, flash your file: PS4 Remote Play Port 4.0 + .zip
- Now do a Wipe Cache and Dalvik Cache. If you don’t know how to do this, you can find how to do it easily by searching in the internet (Google is your friend).
- Restart your smartphone.
- Copy the file: playstationapp.apk in your smartphone, and install it. (Remember to check: Unknown Source)
- Launch the application PlaystationApp and click Remote Play button.
- Wait for the connection to your PS4.
- You can now remote play your ps4 games to your smartphone.
Enjoy !!!

Congrats.
wow. thats awesome !
now i really think bout gettin a ps4 …
When I try to flash the zip it fails to flash without a reason. I’m on omnirom Galaxy s4 using twrp
WORST PS4 R.P EVER we need ofw not cfw
we can just use vita without fuss 🙂
it runs on OFW as long as you have CWM or TWRp
cool but i dont have andriod 🙁 how about a jailbroken iphone?
Probably not. Jailbroken iphone is the equivalent to a non rooted android
And the app was designed for android and the android architecture.
Wowwwww that’s amazing of this can be applied to the PS3 that would be awesome!!!!
Doesn’t work on HTC One X with TWRP ;(
I followed the steps with no issue but I can’t get the remote play button to show up. I’ve tried on my rooted Nexus 7 2012 Wifi running 4.4.4 and on my rooted Galaxy S2 running 4.4.4 Cryogenmod. What am I doing wrong?
Anyone got this to work on a Galaxy S3 GT-I9300? The file flashed fine but in the playstation app all i can do is control the PS4 using the smartphone but not get the screen to show.
So two day ago I got remote play work on my nexus 7 (2013) by reading the xda forum. Took me a hour or two to get it working reason was, I was trying to install the zip file using TWRP . On the 29th page or so on the thread it was said that TWRP did not work for installing the zip file and that you needed to push the file manually.
everyone who wants to try this on android phone/tablet must be running latest firmware aka kitkat.
have a clockwork recovery mode….. follow the instructions above.
note: your phone must NOT be ROOTED!!! otherwise remoteplay app will force close…
so wait, it HAS to be rooted? or it CANNOT be rooted?!?! Which one
To install the file you need to be rooted.
To be able to use remote play u need to uninstall super user (SU).
There are app that let’s you uninstall and re-install super user.
So did it work for you?
Yes it works for me.
If it is not to be rooted, I can give it a try.
Anyway, thanks for the tutorial, its a big step! A tablet is way more comfortable for remote play since many PS4 games are made for the big screen, in order to be comfortable.
The only way I could get it to work( HP touchpad on 4.4 cm11) was to use the manual method from this site:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/ps4-remote-play-t2929147
I also had to use the dualshock workaround 2nd user method to get the dual shock 4 to work ( it is the second post on page ).
Not sure it is worth it, virtually unplayable with lag / freezes ( just playing local, 10 feet from ps4 ). Hopefully a direct Bluetooth method will come soon.
i got a tablet from china, has developer mode installed, not sure rooted or have cfw. it has kitkat and able to download unknown apps. any simple steps on if its compatible with it.
Thank wololo this ends up killing the psvita, the only thing that stands out in the market now anyone can use it in smartphone
TY nice post 😮
This is NOT a remote play, and I am 100 % sure the writer didn’t even try this guide. This only make your phone an alternative controller for your PS4 !
Umm no sir you are incorrect, this is definitely remote play. PS4 screen outputs on the android device
So….did not work for me. Just received the regular PlayStation App after rooting etc..
i have same problem its just the app that you can download from store unlees you have to have higher than 4.0 and lower than 5.-0
I understand that we must to erase the original play station app if we, right?
I understand that we must erase the original play station app if we have it install, right?
