How to: Set an Xbox 360 Devkit to boot into anything!
So I am sorta new to the XDK or even Xbox 360 game(only ever had retails) so IDK how commonly known this is but I sure had a heck of a time finding any form of info on this :/
OK lets say you have one of em fancy Dev kits and want to set FSD to run on boot, But how! There is no Dashlaunch for Dev kits! You yell at me, Well turns out XDK’s can actually set whatever they want to run on boot via a built in command in the SDK
I will be using Freestyle Dash 3 v775 for this example, And no I and no one else will link you to the Xbox 360 SDK as it is illegal, We already have SCE mad at us and sure don’t need MS *** as well.
1) Get FreeStyle Dash 3 from over at it’s release thread at RealModScene.com and transfer it to your HDD(yes it needs to be the HDD afaik) and place it in “DEVKIT”
2) Start up the Xbox 360 Command Prompt(included as part of the SDK)
3) Type in this simple command without the quotes “xbsetcfg /x [XBOX IP ADDRESS] /Title [PATH TO XEX]
So for me it would be “xbsetcfg /x 192.168.1.81 /Title HDD:\DEVKIT\DashFSD\FSD3.xex
4) Have fun!
Yea thanks to me removing the boot screen the system just stays at a black screen till it fully boots, It does this cause it has to before it can load FSD.
I will point out that whatever it is you are setting to boot must already be in the HDD or else the SDK CMD will complain about it not existing.
There is one problem that I noticed regarding booting into FSD and probably Aurora as well. The theme will always default to loading whichever one is listed first so I just named my theme to “default.xzp” and removed all others.
Another thing that I had a hard time finding was that there actually is a FakeAnim type app that works with XDK’s! In fact that’s how I found out about this!
Check it out

I am linking to it as per the devs request to not post it anywhere else so I would also appreciate it if it was not posted on /talk either.
And yes It sucks that you need an account to even see the thread.

Immedietly lost my interest…
When in doubt use google cache 😉
THIS +1
first xbox tutorial congratulation !!!
That oldskool xbox360 UI makes me want to cry at what they made it into over the years…. ;<
Seriously, MS had a cool unique dash that honestly just needed slight updating for all the new features that were added over time.
I understand they wanted to keep it feeling fresh but how did they go from awesome blades dash to uninspired Metro squares? I miss the days of consoles having unique UI’s, a consolosed UI was one of it’s selling points to me 🙁
The PS4’s UI might suck but at least SCE tried, More then I can say about MS and the XBO.
xbox one UI is really good imo. why u hate it ?
He just mentioned about the uninspired Metro squares, you’ve seen the XB1’s UI right? Atrocious.
I don’t hate it, In fact I like it better than the PS4’s UI for the simple fact you can actually keep things organized on the XBO.
I only wish it had it’s own unique UI. Consoles just don’t have that nice feel to them anymore ;_;
Metro is horrible, bad design choice and poor graphics, it’s like going back to the first iPhone that couldn’t even change the background.
so arer there any real xbox360 commercial console mods ?
Yea there is JTAG and RGH which will let you run whatever you want, There is also flashing the DVD drive’s firmware to allow burned disks but that is just piracy cause no unsigned code with that method.
And of course the always popular ODDE’s.
I don’t understand the point of this if you can put freestyle dash on there than why not just use dash launch idk I don’t get it maybe because I jtagd my 360 and never use the pos it’s got two games on it lol
fate6 any softmods like with xbox the first sir ?
could u help me port openremoteplay server to opensource xbox homebrew ?
mainly for running the commercials on my xbox the first hdd on psvita tho
There is no DashLaunch for XDK’s, heck it would brick the thing if you tried installing it.
The point tho is that Info on the Xbox 360 dev kits is really hard to find and even harder to find info from 2011+
Most of the info I know is from talking with other XDK owners.
Nicely done fate6. Glad to see you working diligently on the XDK.
Hey Surgeon! Kinda just messing around with the XDK like I always do and figured I would share this one since it was one of the things I couldn’t find info on(among other things >__<)
Why do things the advanced way, when you could just go into the filesystem and edit the system.io FSD boot sequence to “true”.
Uh Sorry but how is that less complicated?
Maybe you should have a look at RGLoader…
Maybe you should look up what a Slim Prototype is….
