SKFU releases ★ Package Installer Unlock on the retail PS Vita!
If we look back at the various Gamescom videos I’ve uploaded, we could see that there is a special Application installed at the developer PS Vitas:
The Package Installer.
The App actually exists within the retail (that is your normal everyday PS Vita) PS Vita, but it is hidden.
If we use the following method, we are able to actually access and use the Package Installer application ourselves!
At first, how the heck can we access this hidden app?
Well, simply follow this easy video and you should be able to use the Package Installer at your own PS Vita.
No time to watch a video? Well, visit this website, enter your email address and press continue. (Note from wololo: people with a /talk account can also directly go here)
Next open the Email Application on your PS Vita, set up your email that you’ve used in the step from above, if you did not do this yet.
Open the new email you should’ve gotten and press the start button on the picture inside of the email.
If by black magic, the Package Installer application should open and you will be able to use it… Kind of…
The Package Installer has basically 2 ways to transfer content: Via host0:/ and via the CMA. Problem: The retail PS Vitas do not have a host0:/ and the normal CMA can not transfer packages.
How to solve this? Well, simply use the QCMA, made by codestation, which is capable of transfering your already saved content and additionally has a PS Vita firmware update function and a function for transfering packages, if you have access to the Package Installer.
Does this mean free PSP/PS1/PS Vita games?
Wow! Stop right there! It is not as easy as you think.
The Package Installer is only capable of installing DRM-free content, which basically means you can not install any kind of content, that requires you to pay for it, e.g. full PSP/PS1/PS Vita games.
Any kind of demo applications, regardless of the PSN Store region (!), can be installed… As long as it is a PS Vita demo.
Pure applications like NicoNico, Netflix and the eBook Reader can also be installed, since those do not require you to have a license for them.
PSP demos can, unfortunally, not be installed via this way, otherwise a free PSP demo exploit could be, potentionally, possible. Aww, bummer!
Some might think that this is useless, some others might think that this is great, since demos like Hatsune Miku: Project Diva f 2nd can now be played at any kind of PS Vita, regardless if they have access to the japanese PSN Store or not.
In the end you have to know yourself if you are going to use this or not.
I would like to thank SKFU for his work and dedication to the PS Vita, even if he hides a lot of things from the public, the things he releases are always a stunning surprise!

This is very mildly useful. Got excited with how vague the blog post was and tried to install some JP games on my US account that I legally acquired (since it only really specifies free stuff won’t work if you read it a certain way 😉 ) but obviously it didn’t work as expected. Bummer.
It just highlights something for me – If Sony hadn’t stripped a few of these core features that were on the PS3 out of the Vita there’d be less people trying to pirate with it. All I really want is the ability to run games I payed for without destroying my Vita’s organization and watching their stupid intro video every time I switch regions.
And you know there’s other stuff like certain PSP games I loved on UMD not being available on the PSN store but I don’t blame them for that so much – just a part of it
Anyway interesting find looking forward to seeing more!

Not working on 3.01. Returns a “Not found” type error every time I try, using an email I made myself. Cant get the official email from zload. Email is dig_mac@yahoo.com if anyone has the real email.

Doesn’t work for me at all. Tried different title IDs from SKFU’s title list, no luck.

If anybody doesn’t receive the email, you have to write it to yourself.
Paste this html-code “OPEN PKG INSTALLER” (without ” ) in the email and send it to your own email.
Thats the way how SKFU suggest it. Andit works great. 😉

The tutorial is missing a few steps
I got the email to launch the Package Installer
I got some pkg files
But the tutorial NEVER showed what to do with those pkg files..
Where do I put them?
How can I make them appear on that Package Installer on the Vita so I can actually install them?
If you’re gonna make a vid at least make it complete and not just a show off, tsk!
In the settings of QCMA you can see the path for the packages. You have to paste the .pkg files in this folder and they appears on the Vita.
Tried that, I think it’s QCMA I’m having trouble at. It doesn’t detect my Vita is connected.
In fact, how do I even use QCMA?
I have it installed and all but even a simple transfer of files doesn’t work. Vita doesn’t detect CMA or whatnot
– Open the CMA App on the Vita and try to connect to PC via USB.
– Right klick on the Icon Right in the Taskbar from windows and select “refresh database”.
I’ve tried a few things because i had the same problems.

In-game purchase are involve so the game is link to your PSN account hence you can’t install it using PKG Installer. There have been several other people who tried already and couldn’t get the game to install.
I’ve tried so many times but I can’t get the email…
So I can install the free edit play dlc for DIVA f 2nd to my PSV with this? I have to try when I get home. It would be perfect to be able to play edit play songs on my NA psn account.

I have the same problem, I already tried 3 Vitas and over 20 different titleids and it still says “Could not find the application”. All 3 Vitas are in 3.18 anyone else got it working? Any recommendation?
