Minimur, WTH Happened This Week? Saints Row IV on PS4, Kinect Standalone Release, and Ice Bucket Challenge!
Hey guys! Sorry I missed the past couple of weeks, anyway, there’s quite a few interesting pieces in todays article, with the likes of Reggie Fils-Aime doing the ice-bucket challenge, a new type os DS (yes, ANOTHER) and a super cool VR application!
First up however, we’ve got the PS Vita announcements, this game announcement was made on the PS Blog, already released on PC, it’s an indie fencing style game and it looks pretty interesting, it’s the first I’ve heard of this game, so hopefully it gets the recognition it deserves on the Vita and PS4, take a look at the gameplay below, the soundtrack it pretty cool too:
Something that I found rather interesting, is that the developers have implemented a 2 player mode, so you can go against eachother… on the same PS Vita. The controls look pretty simple, move left right, move your sword up and down, so it’s pretty clever of them to separate each half of the Vita for different players. This sort of game doesn’t really seem like my cup of tea mind you, so I’ll be missing out on it.

On Friday, Deep Silver teased a saints row announcement, which many thought it’d be a main entry to the series, but it turns out that it is DLC, called Saints Row: Gat Out Of heck
Our brand new city of New Hades features five distinct islands including a barren wasteland of an ancient war, a towering downtown for heck’s elite, and a crammed slums built for ultimate suffering. This new environment is specifically catered to one of our new supernatural powers: angelic flight! With angelic wings, our Saints will terrorize the ranks of heck’s armies from ankle-biting imps to massive Arch-Demons.
Super powers are making a return with supernatural twists from demonic summons to deadly holy auras. A new arsenal of wicked weapons can be found as well as The 7 Legendary Deadly Weapons — each the twisted embodiment of one of the 7 deadly sins! Fans may also find some much needed closure for past friends (And enemies!).
Awesome, I love the Saints Row series!
But that’s not all! Saints Row: IV: Re-Elected was also announced, and you can probably guess what it is. a re-do for next gen consoles… or… current gen…
The Re-Elected edition will include Gat Out Of heck and also all previous DLC for the game, at the price of $50 which seems pretty reasonable.

GTA next, now we’ve got some good news on the next gen version game, but bad news for PS3 players with a 12gb console (and haven’t changed the hard-drive), but I’ll start with the good news first. It should be pretty obvious that old gen games should be touched up for the new gen offspring, we’ve seen Tomb Raider with upated graphics and 1080/60 (on PS4, at least) and also The Last Of Us, with DLC included and touched up graphics, but so far we haven’t really seen much brand new content made for the updated version.
GTA seems to have broken this mould and the DJ for ‘Non-Stop Pop FM’ tweeted out with photos of herself at the studio announcing they’re working on the radio stations to update them, either this means that they’re going to update just the voice overs, or maybe some new tracks, hopefully it’ll be both and not just the commentary, but either way the songs are always enjoyable, non-stop pop was my favourite station when I played the game, I’m ashamed to admit.
Back with @rockstargames to update my GTAV radio station Non Stop Pop FM for new versions coming this… http://t.co/ef2VSb0g9G — Cara Delevingne (@Caradelevingne) August 29, 2014

Now for the not so good news, the ever so awesome GTA Online will no longer work on the 12GB PS3’s since update 1.16, the support post says:
As the world of Grand Theft Auto Online continues to expand and evolve through ongoing updates, storage limitations of the PlayStation®3 12GB hardware will require owners to purchase additional storage to accommodate GTAV Title Updates after 1.16 (released on 8/19/14). All updates and content must remain installed on the system in order to maintain compatibility for all players within GTA Online.
Story mode will still be accessible, fortunately, but it is a shame that half of the game is locked out because of a hardware limitation. But still, anyone who fancied buying the game and sticking to playing it for this long after release is more likely to have a PS3 with a decent hard drive in it. The chances of someone with a 12gb PS3 and still playing this game are pretty slim, maybe that’s why they held up to not supporting it for so long.

For those of you excited for the free-to-play game that is Deep-Down, and were expecting to be playing the beta some time this year. Well tough cookies, the beta has been delayed until 2015.
It’s not all bad news however, as their way of saying sorry, Capcom released a 7 minute gameplay video, it’s in Japanese but it does showcase the local 2 player, and awesome particle effects.

Microsoft struggled massively at the start of this generation, and it will have to be part to blame for their Kinect, which they decided to dump and sell consoles solo without the Kinect.
Now, for those who actually wanted the damn thing, they can buy it new for £129.99/$150. And also have it bundled with Dance Central: Spotlight. (It is bundled with the game in US and EU, not entirely sure about other regions however)
It is set for release on October 7th, although, an English tech- second hand shop is already selling them, for £35, and if you want to trade your Kinect in, you’d be getting a measly £16. which is about $26
Right, so once again Nintendo have done it, released a new DS (you know there are 9 different models in total) This new 3ds model, aptly named ‘New 3ds’ will come in normal size and XL, and comes with a couple of interesting new buttons., including a second set of triggers, and also a new analogue stick, above the ABXY buttons.
Something that has really impressed me about the new model, is that the 3d viewing supposedly works no matter what angle you view it at, the 3ds’ camera tracks your face and changes the screen accordingly to make the 3d work.
Kotaku covered it pretty well, take a look at their site:

Time for the *** articles now, one includes pants, and the other includes the infamous ice bucket challenge.
Okay. Pants.
Assassins Creed has had it’s fair share of weird pre-order bonuses, and I don’t think this tops Black Flags American Football bonus, but it’s certainly pretty odd, you get speed boosting pants (AKA trousers to other folks) and also a bonus mission, okay a bonus mission is pretty good, depending on how fleshed out it actually is (voice acting and cutscenes? Ot is it just a bonus side mission) but in any case. I think anyone who is eager enough for the game wouldn’t think about pre-ordering just for the bonus, but instead because they actually want the game and see the pre-order bonuses as well…. a ‘bonus’ rather than an incentive.

Something that you literally can’t escape, even if you’re on the moon, because Bungie has you covered. Even if you have a Wii U, because Reggie Fils-Aime has been nominated to do the challenge, and made all of the Big-wigs at Nintendo Of America do it with him, here’s the awesome video:
Okay, some cool videos now, one is of the cool VR application I told you about at the beginning, another is (sorry) an ice bucket challenge by Homer Simpson, but give it a watch. Its funny!
Non-stop pop is my favorite station too, most stations suck. Only a few can be listened, maybe Space FM, LS Radio, & West Coast Classics. I might listen to Blaine County Radio while controlling Trevor in Blaine County. 😆 I knew they were gonna update the radio anyway before anyone said that. Imagine how great the DS4 will make the experience.
And btw, you forgot to mention the new update for PS4 & Vita, there will be theme support & PS Vita will get the Live From PlayStation app.
Personally, I hope the DS4 *doesn’t* “upgrade” the experience. IMO there shouldn’t be a speaker in the controller, it’s more annoying than helpful…
I am glad they’re doing something extra with the radio, though, I just wish there were more new content than DJ banter and a handfull of extra songs.
Always good to see news. Thanks Minimum 🙂
No news on the new Persona protagonist? For shame, Minimur. 😛
Any link to those 35bucks kinects?
