[PSP] Use your own music in GTA Liberty City Stories (by gokumert)
Note from Wololo: This tutorial was initially published by /Talk member gokumert, as part of our monthly tutorial contest. Gokumert won the best PSP tutorial prize (a $20 PSN Code) for his entry. You can find the original post here.
Here is a complete tutorial on how to use your own music in GTA Liberty City Stories.
To begin, this tutorial only works in theory with an original cd but you can use your MP3 also, so I will divide this tutorial into 2 parts, one with original cd and another without original cd.
To use MP3 files go directly to the step II, and then proceeds to Step III to complete the tutorial in both cases.
To begin, you must download Rockstar custom track (you can find it here : http://www.rockstargames.com/libertycitystories/dry/downloads/RCT_Install.zip) and then unzip using winrar or winzip and install the software.
Once relaunched, connect the psp in usb mode then run the program.
Step I – With original audio cd
Insert an audio CD into your drive.
You get the songs on the CD.
You can rename the song titles if you want … But it’s no use.
Just click on the left button next to the title of the cd, and the files will be transferred to your memory stick.
Now go to the Step III
Step II – With MP3s
It is interesting to know that only WAV files are compatible with the software of rockstar, so you will have to start by encoding your MP3 files to WAV with any video converter (you can find a lot on the internet).
Then we will have to create a CD Image (often called iso), basically a virtual cd.
To do that I used nero burning rom.
Choose Create an audio CD, if you do not take this option it does not work.
Select the add button, and choose your previously encoded file, then once all the songs selected click next.
In the first menu that appears select Image Recorder [CD-R/RW] and then start copying by clicking burn on the bottom right.
Once the CD image created you should install a virtual reader, there is many (Alcohol120%, daemon tools and many others), I’ll use Alcohol120% for explanation because it is the easiest.
Install the virtual reader, and once done just run it and go to the left menu option and then click General, a new window will appear, then you need to click on the virtual reader.
In the menu that appears put under the number of virtual drive the number 1, after a few seconds you will have a virtual DVD drive on your desktop.
Right click on your virtual drive and choose mount an image.
And choose your cd created before, here it is finished, you can simply refer to the step I to put your music on the PSP.
Step III – to complete
Finally, you can simply activate the sound band option in GTA and your music will be accessible by car.
Have fun with it!
seriously? 10 yrz old tutorial damn! i remembered doing this waaaaayyyy back lol hope the youngness will appreciate 🙂
I’ve always just used the music.prx to get around the whole converting process.
Yea the good old days of the great PSP. Something which PS Vita will never have.
“The good old days of the great PSP. Something the PS Vita will never have.”
What won’t the PS Vita have that the PSP did? An OLED screen, UMD module?
The only thing I can really think of right now that the PS Vita will lack in comparison to the 7th gen PSP, is the nostalgia. The nostalgia of playing the PSP at a younger age, for it being the powerful handheld miracle it was in the past, with so much blazing potential having CFW.
Other than that, you’ve got a huge library of “nostalgic” games to chose from in the PSN store. HD remakes, console adaptations, ports, PS1 library, even the 16-bit era on the market. Yes, the nostalgia you feel while playing these games on the vita might not be the same, but it falls under the same abilities that the PSP gave you.
We still have yet to utilise the MAJOR benefits of native vita emulators, homebrew, CPU overclocking and much more availablity when creating PSN mobile titles. The PSP will only be a much more vibrant memory to you, simply because it was the first revision Sony released at a time when you would’ve been much younger, more impressed and engaged with the PSP than the new Vita.
I was 11 when the PSP came out and the first game I played was Metal Gear Acid. Didn’t like it. That was such a disappointing game. The graphics amazed me, but the card system was a huge letdown. GTA Liberty City Stories^^ the GTA games on the PSP used to amaze me as much as GTA V when it first came out. A few years ago I decided to try out Metal Gear Acid again and I loved it. Being such a young age when it first came out; limited me to the mental capacity to be interested or understand what to do.
Now I’m almost 19, games don’t have quite the same appeal as they used to anymore. MGS HD Collection on the vita is nostalgic, but I’d
already had it for Xbox360 at the time. Basically all I’m trying to say, is that its only the past circumstances, your age, first revision PSP and the gaming market that would’ve wowed you the most. Half of this is just a random rant. Sorry.
Am I the only one who is aware this is for PC
I think you’re entirely missing the point of why we do these things.
Or you could save a lot of time and just use the codemasters app that was meant for TOCA PSP which did the same thing, but did support MP3 source: http://www.iand.net/2005/11/gta-liberty-city-stories-custom-soundtracks/
The original codemasters download link is down, but easy enough to find with a google.
