RetroArch v1.1 – The next major milestone update!
[Note from Wololo: I was on holiday earlier in August and am now publishing a backlog of articles that our bloggers wrote while I was away. Since I am the only one with publishing rights on the blog, some of the articles might not appear as “fresh” as they should be. I am the one to blame, not the bloggers]
The last time we spoke of Retro Arch was at 27th May. They were planning to release v1.0.0.3 at that point, but now they’re planning an even bigger release! This one jumps from v1.0.0.2 to v1.1. Yes this is the update that includes the PSP Port, but that’s not just it. They’re also including a built in PSP emulator which uses the PPSSPP core. The PPSSPP core will be available for PC (Most likely for Linux/OSX and Windows), and mobile (iOS/Android/Blackberry). Unless you’ve been living under a rock, and have no idea what PPSSPP is, it’s a PSP emulator for a number of systems like Androids, iOS, PC etc.
This update contains a lot of new goodies including:
– New cores such as the Vectrex, fMSX and BlueMSX and Improvements to existing cores such as the Mupen64Plus .
– A new GUI Menu, known as the lakka menu which should also include support for themes, as seen in the screenshot below.
This menu’s design is similar to the XMB, where you use the right/left buttons to navigate through each section, and the up and down buttons to navigate through that specific section.
– Audio DSPs / Software Video Filters
– Support for Blackberry 10.
– Revamped iOS / OSX and Android ports
– X-Arcade Tankstick support
– A new server
These are the main features to be expected in the v1.1 release. They’re hoping to have it ready for early September. I’m pretty excited about the release, what about you guys?
More details can be found on their blog post.
It would be great on my Nvidia Shield 😀 Cant wait !!!!
Oh and FINALLY FIRST !!!! 😀
First to die
Lol wololo was right about this.
I’ve always been disappointed by the snes emulator on psp. Hopefully this will work with those stubborn games.
Hopefully they’ll be able to implement the ppsspp core into the ps3 version to increase psp compatibility
Yeah I believe they said they’ll work on implementing the ppsspp core on other devices after this update.
How come there is still no working DS emulator or Dreamcast?
its funny when the DS is easily to bypass security while the emulator isn’t in lol I know there is a difference in it but its funny in a way. XD
There is for DS, DeSmuME. And with the Dreamcast, they’re looking at possibly Reicast as they have to use emulators that are cross platform (OS and architecture); meaning nothing with assembly code enhancements in it.
Will the PPSSPP core on PSP have up-scaling capabilities like the original Emulator? The images look like they are up-scaled and that would be so much better when put on the Vita. PSP games wouldn’t look as blurry.
I don’t think the ppsspp core is for the PSP itself o.O its for other devices emulation the PSP.
For the VirtualBoy, need to add other Features like the Cheats so have Unlimited Time in Wario Land (which was to me the only good Game that came out for the System next to the Mario Tennis).
is this all in one?does it run PSP and DS emulator games?
Yeah its kinda like an all in one sort of thing. And yes the PC one will be able to run PSP(in the upcoming update) and DS games.
The image used in the article is kind of odd. Since this is a logo i made for.as it states The standalone repacks that i released and created that logo for, .
Hmm, sorry about that, I’m probably the one who used that image a long time ago and we tend to reuse it. That was the best retroarch logo/image I found at the time, so I’m the one to blame here.
