Sony Gamescom News Roundup
Missed what happened during Sony’s Gamescom conference? Don’t fret. We’ve got you covered with a roundup of all the latest news and videos.
The (Un)important Stuff
- Statistics, everyone loves statistics. Sony opened up with a stride of confidence by announcing the PS4 has sold 10 million units. Which means 10 million sold to consumers and not retailers.
- Playstation Now and PStv are coming to Europe in 2015. Sony also revealed that the PlayStation TV is heading to North America on October 14 and Europe on November 14. AU is expected sometime spring 2015.
New Firmware
- New firmware update 2.0 will be making its way to the PS4 soon. The new update will introduce a host of new improvements. A few were detailed including some new socially centered ones. The biggest announcement was SharePlay. Shareplay lets you play a game coop or competitively with a friend without one of you having to own it.
New Games for (PS4)
- Journey is being remastered for the PS4.
- The Unfinished Swan is getting a PS4 remaster.
- DayZ is coming to the PS4 at some point.
- Tearaway is being ported over from the Vita. New features, mechanic improvements and visuals are among the changes.
- Q-Games announced a new exclusive called The Tomorrow Children.
- Until Dawn was already announced-and formally supposed to be for PS3-but Sony has re-revealed it.
-
- Silent Hill is getting another entry in the franchise with Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro at the helm and Norman Reedus from The Walking Dead as the lead.
- P.T is a teaser for the new Silent Hill, the playable teaser is out now for the PS4 for free.
- From the creators of Crackdown comes Hollowpoint.
- Alienation is a new top down shooter about-you guessed it- aliens. The game is being developed from the minds of DeadNation and RESOGUN.
- WiLD is a new PS exclusive IP where you play as animals. It’s an “online survival adventure game” set 10,000 years ago.
- GUNS UP! is a brand new exclusive for PS3, PS4 and PS Vita. The free-to-play strategy game is coming soon.
- The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is a new mystery and adventure based game.
- Rime introduces the story of a boy who must use his wits and ingenuity to survive – and ultimately escape from – a mysterious island and a terrible curse.
- Hellblade is a new timed-exclusive IP. Its an action game announced by the makers of Heavenly Sword.
- Counterspy is a 2D/3D sidescroller with an art style with influences from Team Fortress 2 and SPY vs SPY.
New Games for (PsVita)
Its another lackluster event sadly for the Vita. It was once again a testament that Sony is not too interested in trying with the Vita. Only a select few indie games were actually announced at Gamescom. Shahid Kamal Ahmad had to take to Twitter to actually tell people there are some games coming which is again nothing beefy nor a strong sign of first party or third party support of any major or established franchises.
Ahmad said that the following are indeed coming to the Vita relatively soon though:
- Nom Nom Galaxy
- Pix the Cat, Papers
- Please, Tales of Hearts R
- Dont Starve
- Velocity 2X
- Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number
- Broforce
- Chimera 2
- The Swapper
- Forget Me Not
- DRM
- Son of Scoregasm
- Axiom Verge
- Gravity Crash Ultra
- Starbound
- Frozen Synapse Prime
- Risk of Rain
- Titan Souls
- Super Exploding Zoo
- Minecraft
- Volume

More DRM for the Vita? wow
Is any of the coming PSVita games AAA? They are sound like indie games.
The only non indie game on that list would be Tales of Tales of Hearts R.
The rotten thing about it all nothing NEW was announced for the vita.
Most games on that list have been announced before already by developers on twitter or the PlayStation blog.
Tales of Hearts R**
I have seen gameplay videos and I’m not a big fan of the battle system. I guess I’m too much of a round-based old-school Final Fantasy guy.
I’m even having a problems adapting to the FF Type-0 gameplay (and that coming from a guy who played the heck out of the Kingdom Hearts games).
How about a new Star Ocean game for PS4 and PS Vita?
Which reminds me, why isn’t any of the Star Ocean games on PSN?
i’m not sure what the “coming soon” timeline is for that list, but natural doctrine is for some reason missing despite the fact it’s coming out next month, and that’s AAA/full retail.
P.T. is actually Silent Hill(s) producted by Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro starring Walking Dead star Norman Reedus.
This sounds like a very nerdy fantasy, but is actually true.
alienation is a game id rather play on my vita
if they don’t care about the Vita they should stop patching the exploits. the vita would probably sell more units if people knew what it could do while hacked.
I would have never wanted the vita if it was not possible to get VHBL or CFW all thanks to the awesome devs and this website is why i keep buying the psvita.
I will play Journey on my PS4. I do hope it’s cross buy, though…
Hollowpoint could be good, I loved Crackdown 1 and 2, but couldn’t get in to APB.
Nothing exciting on the Vita. Disappointing, but not surprising.
Now I feel the vita is dead! I know some people will like the games on that list. But without the killzone, uncharted offerings it’s dead to me. Its been a year I cant buy a game cuz no one is building any. Moving to my ps4 permanently!!
Sony should just say it publicly that that don’t care about the vita and that they are only going to make *** updates that practically no one wants, better to say it publicly than to have owners waiting for the next update that they know will bring nothing but still hope for something amazing
