PS4 System firmware 1.75 brings Blu-Ray 3D support, minor additional features
PS4 Update 1.75 is upon us, and as announced, is bringing support for 3D Blu-Ray.
That’s pretty much it in terms of “useful” features, although the readme also adds the following things:
- Sound quality improved during 1.5x playback of Blu-Ray and DVDs (for the many of us who enjoy watching movies faster just so we can watch more of them),
- System messages that used to be displayed on the top-right corner are now displayed in the top left corner (in the name of all nations that read from left to right, I thank you for this critical update, Sony)
- Also a new option to automatically download PSN featured content in standby mode has been added (wait, that sounds like it’s actually useful, why the heck is this after the two other ones?)
Nothing much to see here, but it’s definitely better than the previous “system stability improved” 1.74 firmware.
Now I’m curious, how many of you own a 3D TV, and are you actually using it? I’ve considered buying a new TV a few times, but 3D functionality is definitely not something I’d lose sleep on.
(Unrelated, but for PC gamers among us who might be interested, Amazon currently have a deal with PC Gaming products from Logitech at 50% off. Thought I wouldn’t make a full article about this but that it was worth mentioning)
I dislike the auto download featured content option. I hated how, when PS+ first launched on the PS3, it would download a bunch of stuff I didn’t want, because I had auto uploads turned on. I’m glad that it’ll actually be an option this time…
(I know they eventually let us turn that off on PS3, but it still bugged me)
(wait, that sounds like it’s actually useful, why the heck is this after the two other ones?)
ASCIIbetical sort order sorts ‘P’ and ‘S’ before ‘[‘.
(Only half jokingly; it wouldn’t surprise me if this simply was the reason it’s sorted this way. I know people who work on the software side in there, and they say the company works in very mysterious ways. >.< )
I got full hd but no 3d tv, what would be useful is a game download mode in standby than system updates
Well got 3DTV here, but thats mostly because one of the best gaming TV’s out on the market is actually a 3DTV (Sony W905), that said, I’ve only ‘tried’ it once and that was with a 3D game, it worked quite decently but just more annoying over time to play that way then normally, just to much eye constraint.
I have a 3d samsung tv with internet..i only used the 3d feature once when I was playing black ops 2 and I had the tv for a year..your not really missing out on anything but if there’s some games you wanted to try out in 3d then go for it
I’ve been waiting a long time for this cause I kept my ps3 at a friend’s place. But in the time it took Sony to add this we already got married and moved in together. Meaning I have my ps3 back and no longer need it on ps4. Too slow.
Well, that just nailed it for me! It’s time to by the ps4!
The one and only reason i had to stay away was the lack of 3d blu-ray reproduction.
I was allways thinking “in what heck of consoles a new generation console ##4 as less specs then an old gen ##3?”
I must algo say that i’ve a Lg 3d cinema tv with that ultra light and absolutly not anoying glasses. That’s Why i enjoy 3d game playing and have a 3d br colection.
3D Blu-Ray support FINALLY. Not that I use it but it’s something that should have been there from day one. One certain movies the 3D effect really blows the mind and makes me feel like the stuff is jumping off the screen.
I’m still waiting for better Vita support so I can download and backup Vita content there.
Also still waiting for a way to sort the games on the main list and sort Trophies. I’ve got more than 20 items in the list and it is a pain to find what I am looking for.
I currently use a Sony Playstation Display for my PS3/4 gaming and the display is fantastic minus the annoying reflection from the glossy display. I don’t use it for 3D stuff as shutter glasses give me nausea. I need to save up to get one of those nice LG Cinema 3D displays as polarized 3D glasses are the only thing that doesn’t give me issues. Even the 3DS’ 3D gives me nausea.
I think all of our TVs are 3D LEDs and I personally use mine often. Okay its one with Polarisation and no shutter glasses so its easier and I enjoy Uncharted as much as some amazing looking movies on it every Week. Im not asking Sony for that feature but They can integrate it so easily that I m happy to See it now. The only thing they should do is converting TLOU To 3D. It’d be more than gorgeous seeing this Amazing world around you with 5.1 sound! But okay this is dreaming 😀
