PS Vita: And the new VHBL exploitable game for Firmware 3.15 is…
Hey everyone, as promised we are now announcing the game exploited by developer Wistine for Vita Firmware 3.15.
I believe we’ve mentioned this before, but this game is apparently not available in Japan, US, Canada, among other ones. It is however available in most countries of Europe, and in Australia.
A few weeks ago we announced an exploitable game available only on the JP PSN store, with the VHBL port made by Japanese developer 173210. This time again, people in the US are out of luck, but if you’re in North America, don’t worry as we’ll have something for you very soon.
As usual, we have privately disclosed the game to our members on /talk through one of our now famous “ninja releases”, and are now announcing it publicly so that as many of you can get the game. Hurry up though, as we expect Sony to remove the game from their store within the next 48h (as they typically do).
What is VHBL?
Vita Half-Byte Loader (VHBL) is an open source Homebrew Loader for the Sony PS Vita. It allows to play fan-made games (homebrews) on any PS Vita. VHBL allows to run emulators for the Game Boy, Sega Megadrive, NES, Super NES… and many other applications. You can check a full list of emulators for the PSP/PS Vita here, and more homebrews here.
VHBL runs through an exploit in an official game that needs to be purchased on the PSN store.
So, what’s the exploited game this time?
drumrolls… the Game is the PSP Game “Space Invaders Extreme“. Do not confuse it with any other Space Invaders clone out there. This is not a PSM or a Vita game, it is a PSP game!

Can’t wait for ecfw so that I can try TN-V 9.6 since I accidentally made a mistake to reset my Password on accident. Which I pretty much got to upgrade it to 3.15 mandatory to just change my password lock screen
This is VHBL *NOT* eCFW. So no backups or PSX games. Tough luck :/.
we have to wait for vhbl files for this game, right? or can we use emulators on vita now if we buy the game?
you gotta wait a couple days. They’ll post the files after Sony removes the game from the store. They do it that way so people don’t start posting a bunch of youtube videos of the exploit game in action and draw too much attention to it. They’re trying to have it available to as many people as possible

Just go to the PS Store and search for it, what other help could you possibly need? If you can’t figure that out there is no chance of you being able to figure out what to do with the vhbl files once they are released. Come on put some sort of effort into doing something yourself. If you can’t find it in your PS Store it isn’t available in your region. Did you at the very least read the article before you posted? Posts like this make me want to start buying Vitas setting them up with throw away PSN accounts and selling them with the necessary files pre installed and donating the profits back to the devs behind the work. Having to deal with these type of people is enough to justify them being supported financially for the work they do. I hope I don’t come off sounding like to much of an ***h0le but come on….. Tough day at work…

it has nothing to do with the game.
(almost?) any game with an exploitable bug that can be used for homebrew can also be used to load games from an iso file, but you’ll also need a separate exploitable bug in the psp firmware used by the emulator.
Actually that is a good game as long as you’re not prone to seizures. Small file size and the backgrounds and music are trippy. Lots of power ups too.
Since there is PSP to run emulators, all this kind of mod on vita seens ridiculous. J appreciate the job of this guys, but for me is a dead end that they like to bash the head all the day. Maybe they need to GeoHot Busters to unlock vita, he actually can do this.
3DS can do everything now, but Vita… Well, let’s simply give it to the garbage truck, the Sony itself do not want nothing with…

If you are running Vhbl, can you get banned from psn ? Is there any way to prevent getting caught?
Not on PSVita, not even with TN-V/ARK. I’ve never seen someone saying she/he got banned for using TN-V ARK
I have a tn-v running 2.05 and an unmodded 3.15, I hesitate to update my modded unit, and obviously I haven’t been online to test it, I leave it in airplane mode exept when transferring files. Is there a way to update it and keep the tn-v with my old exploit? It’s weird /awesome to have two, but inconvenient sometimes. Thanks!
If your exploit supports a newer firmware, you can update to that newer firmware, but tn-v won’t work beyond 3.01 (and you can’t use PSN on 3.01)
Get the best of both worlds; TN-V on your vita with the older firmware and plain VHBL on your vita with firmware 3.15.

Sadly…..No…
VHBL is solely for homebrew (games/accesories made by PSP devs/fanatics). VHBL is a form of user mode in the PSP emulator.
I hope I don’t miss the NA exploit release.
I hope that TN will port TN-V 9.6 to this exploited game…
I do not think this same game has an easy-to-find kernel exploit (no game does) as that is what is needed to gain full access to the PSP emulator within the Vita. If this game had a kernel exploit, then the devs would probably be releasing a full eCFW such as ARK/TN-V.
I’ve yet to see a kernel exploit on a game at all, kernel exploits are on the firmware, not the game.
Does that then mean that there is a chance (even if) to get an eCFW through this game in the future?

You will only be able to use homebrew which is user mode. In order to be able to use TN-V 9.6 you need a kernel mode exploit which rarely gets released and is hard to find.

Will this exploit be usefull for those waiting for a future ecfw and not just vhbl? i mean, in case a 3.15 compatible ecfw is ever released is it going to be possible to use the exploit from this game? Thanks 🙂
Yes, it would be possible via privilege escalation (user->kernel).
