How-to and Review: iAmGhost’s VitaUpdateBlocker
The title is self-explanatory, this is a how-to and review of VitaUpdateBlocker. VitaUpdateBlocker is a new app, giving you the powers of the proxy trick, with much less of the tedious file editing.
I will start out with installation how-tos for Windows and Linux, and then move on to a review.
windows installation
- Download VitaUpdateblocker
- Go to where ever you downloaded the file and run it
- You should see an IP address and a port number
- Do not close the program
- On your Vita: Settings -> Network Settings -> Wifi Settings -> WhateverNetworkYouAreConnectedTo -> Advanced Settings -> Use Proxy
- Under proxy, set the IP address and port number as corresponding with the ones from before
- Use the PSN Store as much as you want (don’t close the program on your PC)
linux installation
Because this is Linux, this is going to be much easier, in fact, you’ll only need to input one command into the terminal.
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install mitmproxy git && sudo git clone https://github.com/iAmGhost/VitaUpdateBlocker.git && cd VitaUpdateBlocker && python vita*.py
After the first run, you only need to type:
cd VitaUpdateBlocker && python vita*.py
Don’t you just love Linux?
For either system, if you try to download a large file from PSN Store and it doesn’t work:
- Open Store application with proxy setting.
- When store main loads, go settings application and disable proxy without killing Store app.
- Back to Store app and download files.

Before I start, this isn’t really going to be much of a review. Well, here goes nothing.
VitaUpdateBlocker works really well. It gets the job done, and I have don’t have to do anything. I would recommend it to all. Thank you to iAmGhost for developing. Rating: 8.5/10

Will this be the same as proxies? And by that I mean, is it something Sony can easily patch or does it work regardless of firmware just as long as we’re not up to date?
Yes, is just a Proxy, but simplier than Charles Proxy or other stuff.

With version 1.1 You can play online games, version 1.0 allowed you to do everything but online game had a bug.
Works perfectly I try twice to both my Vita purchase and download Numblast for firmware 3.01 and a third time to browse the PS Store.

I’m kinda new at this….which number would be the address and which is the port number?
The IP Adress is the one that looks like XXX.XXX.X.XXX, where X are numbers.
The Port number should be something like XXXX, usually 8080
Ok so i did that on my network settings but.i still get a error when i go into psn store
On the Vita settings you should add the IP Adress and Port that VitaUpdateBlocker gives you. Remember, on your vita: Settings -> Network Settings -> Wifi Settings -> WhateverNetworkYouAreConnectedTo -> Advanced Settings -> Use Proxy

this means i can sync my trophies using this program too?
I was able to sync my trophies but i couldnt seem to get the psn list to show.
I tried to see if i could transfer my ffx vita save via the cloud but it threw me errors.
I do like this program though 🙂
You do know there is more to Linux then just Ubuntu right? but I suppose anyone using a more advanced distro can figure this out on their own

Nope – does not work. Added the IP, port but internet communication between PSV and router does not work. I can ping the PSV through the router indicating it is connected just fine. The proxy feature does NOT work.
I am on 3.01 – someone mentioned that it may not work if you are more than 1 firmware lower than the current PSV firmware. Anyone?

Remembering how it’s done via Charles (you’ve got to replace fresh firmware with your current version), I suppose that this is hardcoded for 3.01 and you should try to do this via charles instead.

i am using windows xp 32 bit and the portable exe simply doesn’t work with “application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect bla bla”. same for 1.0 and 1.1.
Hmmm…. pic not visable…. but saved image and its a code I had already spotted befor. Would have been a good way to hide one…

I was able to use this to connect to the psn store but had to disconnect from the proxy to be able to download games.
I was on 2.0.1 earlier today and updated to 3.01 using the charles proxy method.
Was able to access the store and get my hands on a game that has an exploit 😀
When I attempted to use 2.01 it didn’t work.

Application 1-Ouvrir magasin avec un réglage de proxy.
2-Quand principales charges de magasins, aller paramètres proxy application et désactiver sans tuer app Store.
3 Retour à l’App Store et télécharger des fichiers.

3.01 used this morning
Isn’t working for me. I keep getting “An error has occurred. (NW-10743-5)” whenever I go into the PSN store, and then I get a message telling me that I must sign into PSN. When I try to sign into PSN from Settings, I get the same error. :/
How did you get the CA. A few years ago, I written some code using this method, but I didn’t have SONY’s CA key.

-Downloaded all versions
-Left blocker on.
-Says spoofed 2.02, but doesn’t allow psn access.
Viewing the comments every blocker seems to only works for OFW 3.xx+
your so call linux installation isn’t linux installation, it’s just ubuntu/debian installation
there no mitmproxy in the fedora repo, the right and true linux way is:
# su into root
su
# install python and pip if not install, use yum for fedora/red-hat and apt-get for ubuntu/debian
yum/apt-get install python pip
# then use pip to install mitmproxy and the proxy then run it
pip install mitmproxy && git clone https://github.com/iAmGhost/VitaUpdateBlocker.git && cd VitaUpdateBlocker && python vita*.py

I get the same error (NW-10743-5) when trying to connect to store
Ok got it to work, I had to go back to change the port. For some reason it changed it to 8050 when I saved it the first time.

Everything was working fine, but I just started getting this message. Are they patching to prevent the bypass? or is something messed up on my end?
Great in concept and I’m sure it’ll help many people though sadly I cannot get it working myself.
V1 and 1.1 wouldn’t open after attempting to execute the program though it did register in the processes. Windows, of course. Sadly I do not currently have a system with Linux on it to test how it’s working there.
v1.2 ran and stated that it had spoofed the current latest version to my fw (2.61) but when attempting to use it, it kept stating that I must update my firmware.
Question for wololo or anyone who can answer it. After the FW has been spoofed is it safe to enable that ip as a DMZ?

Me too, except the error I get is always NW-10743-5. I’m on 3.01 trying to access the Canadian PSN store, which I’m not logged into on my Vita. Maybe you need to be logged into PSN on your Vita beforehand, and that’s why it’s not working for me? Meh.
I did an internet connection test and the internet on my Vita doesn’t work with the proxy on. That’s probably why. Not sure what I’m doing wrong, though. In Settings, IP Address Settings is set to Automatic, and I’ve only changed Proxy Server to the address I get from VitaUpdateBlocker. Port is always 8080.
Same thing here. Same error NW-10743-5. Wifi connected, but Internet Connection Test fails. I’m on 2.02… tut I see others on 3.01 succeed?
Here’s a step further.
I found my network is like 10.0.X.X but the VitaUpdateBlocker gives 192.168.X.X… because I run virtual Windows on a Mac and using “shared network” setting in VMware Fusion. Changed that Network Adapter to bridge mode in VMware Fusion, so the virtual Windows runs on the same network. And the VitaUpdateBlocker gives 10.0.X.X too.
When I run connect Vita, the command window shows “Spoofed latest version to 02.020.000″(my version), and “you can disable proxy setting now” – but no matter whether I keep using proxy or disable it, I got message “you must update the system software”… Stuck here.
Working good. I just used v1.2 to access the AU PSN using FW 3.01, and it is working good. 🙂 Thanks iAmGhost.

Nevermind, I was running a WebUI server on the same port as the program.
Will this allow for ps4 remote play on 3.01 or just access to the store?
