PS Vita: Homebrews, Plugins, Emulators and ISO/CSO on TN-V Without CMA or FTP
This method of getting homebrew and ISO/CSO on your Vita will work well for those of you not wanting to use CMA (or OpenCMA) or not wanting to use FTP because of the bug where it changes the PSP folder to QSP, discussed here. Although I personally have not had problems with FTP, it is still likely that bugs may occur with you. There is only going to be one app you need on your vita, PSP Filer. You can get that here and install it following this great tutorial by The Z.
Here is what you need:
- A PlayStation Vita running TN-V5+ (only if you want plugins otherwise I believe any other version will do) to get V5+, go to your XMB and under settings select System Update and do a network update
- PSP Filer (see first paragraph)
From here you will never need to use FTP or CMA for any of your eCFW TN needs!
First you need to start up your exploit game. Once you are in the XMB, go over to Network and start up Internet Search. Hit New Search and type “official tn homebrew thread". You should see a link to a wololo.net/talk page. This is the one we are going to use. Once on the page keep going down to the bottom and clicking next page until you see a homebrew game you would like to install. Eventually you will see plugins, then emulators, and then homebrew applications, then CTF themes, and then Gameboots. For whatever it is you want click “Download Here". When prompted select Yes. On the next prompt make sure that the destination is /PSP/COMMON and then save. Once save is completed exit the browser. Navigate to Memory Stick under game in the XMB and start PSP Filer.
For the next three parts you can skip to the tutorial for whatever you want to install. The first part is for Homebrew Games/Applications and emulators, the second is for plugins, themes, and gameboots, and the third is for ISO/CSO.
To install Homebrew Games, Homebrew Applications, and Emulators:
- Go down and open PSP folder with Circle
- Open COMMON with Circle
- Click Circle on the .rar file you downloaded earlier
- In that file you downloaded earlier hit X on the .ZIP file
- Select Circle to copy
- Click Triangle on the destination PSP/SAVEDATA/WhateverTheFolderOfYourExploitGameIs (US Megamix is NPUH10088)
- Close once the file is copied
- Now you can delete the .rar file from earlier by hitting X, then Square, and then Circle
- Close
- Now you can exit PSP Filer by hitting the Select and Start buttons at the same time
- Go to your Memory Stick under game
- You should see the game you want to install click Triangle, Yes, wait for the install to complete, and then Yes again
- Leave Game, open something else in the XMB and then go back to Game
- Enjoy your Homebrews and Emulators!
* For ROMs for your emulators, on the Internet Browser download the from some place on the internet and put them in the ROM folder for you emulator using PSP Filer or use your PC to upload ROMs to Google Drive or Dropbox or somewhere and then download them on your PS Vita and put them in the ROM folder for you emulator using PSP Filer.
*If you try to copy your file using PSP and your are told that the location can’t be read or something like that. Install the homebrew PSPInstaller from the Homebrew Thread from earlier and see if it is available there (This has to be done for Wagic)

- Close once the file is copied
- Now you can delete the .rar file from earlier by hitting X, then Square, and then Circle
- Close
- Now you can exit PSP Filer by hitting the Select and Start buttons at the same time
- Once in the XMB Hit your Select button and then click on TN Recovery Menu
- Go to Plugins and then Plugin Installer and install your plugin, theme, or gameboot
- Enjoy your Plugins, themes, and gameboots!
*For themes, after the steps for Plugins you also have to go Settings -> Theme Settings and then select the theme.

To install ISO/CSO:
- On your PC, rename your ISO/CSO to something short that is in all caps (e.g. MYGAME.ISO for ISO files or MYGAME.CSO for CSO files) DO NOT ASK WHERE TO GET ISO/CSO!
- Upload the file to Google drive or Dropbox or something
- In TN on your Vita, download the ISO/CSO file
- In PSP Filer, Go down and open PSP folder with Circle
- Open COMMON with Circle
- Click X on the .ISO/.CSO file you downloaded earlier
- Select Circle to copy
- Click Triangle on the destination PSP/SAVEDATA/WhateverTheFolderOfYourExploitGameIs (US Megamix is NPUH10088)
- Close once the file is copied
- Exit PSP Filer by hitting the Select and Start buttons at the same time
- Your game will be either at the top or the bottom of your game list press Triangle on it to install
- Go back to PSP Filer and delete the ISO/CSO from your SAVEDATA folder to save space
- Enjoy your ISO/CSO

Special thank you to SMOKE and all of the other amazing people who contributed to The Official TN-V Homebrews + Plugins + Themes Thread as this guide would not at all be possible without them. I’m going to link it right here just because it is so helpful. Comment and PM for more from me, JayDog or follow on Twitter @The_Jay_Doctor

Sweet
nice i like this way of installing …. btw I Have Lost The Game
Make sure that you save it to a destination that you will remember.
…. i guess you didn’t get the joke
I guess I didn’t
you *** made me loose the game!!
This could be quite helpful, thanks for posting it, Jay Doctor.
It may be illegal to upload ISO/CSO to Google drive or Dropbox or something.
Set up local web server.
Didn’t think of that. Setting up a local web server is a much safer way..
Great tutorial! I’m sure this will help many people.
I’ve been using Ad Hoc File Transfer this whole time, though ;P
(but presumably that risks a crash triggering the same bug as FTP, even if it is seemingly much less likely)
nice tutorial
but what about pkg downloaded with mediago
can i install those to ?
As long as they are in a .ZIP it should work. Make sure that the name and extension of the file are both all caps and that in the .ZIP file there is folder with a EBOOT.PBP in it.
If you meant uploading files to mediago insted of Dropbox or Google Drive then I don’t see why not.
You cant install PKGs downloaded via MediaGo.
Thank you for clearing that up The Z.
This will only work till the next firmware update.
After that we’re sc***. Will wait till something else pops up.
Not just this method wil be fixed by the way. ALL of the kexploit TN-V runs on will be patched.
Is there any sound-fix/plugin for the psx/iso’s out there yet?
I don’t believe so. Cross you fingers and hope one comes out soon.
thx jay doc
You should use the music.prx plugin to at least play the soundtrack while playing the game.
Having CSO/ISO files on my dropbox is a BRILLIANT idea. I could name them all accordingly and upload them. That way I can clear the games from my PC, and always be able to access them on the go. I just tether my jailbroken iPhone 5s with 4G LTE and then download it! Thanks guys!
no sont mediago for pc … psp psnstore
those packages for psp from it … how do i install those to psp or vita 😉
?.?
Great Man I like the idea ! I’m Going to use it for Homebrews/Plugins only :D. PsP and Ps1 games no problem sending it Via Cma :D. If Only PSPINSTALLER Had all the homebrews in SMOKE Thread…
what about a howto digitalcomics on psp 660 ?
what about a pspRootbreaksthesandbox ?
what about doing all of the above inside psplink2.0 wifi ?
Yay! More advertising for my threads! 😀
You’re welcome SMOKE. You really deserve it. You put some really hard work into that thread. It’s great.
Thanks man. Tbh I have 200MB of new homebrews to upload to me thread 😆
Thnx for the article, as ‘noobs always need instruction. Seems like a no brainer to me though, if you have ANY experience with a PSP with cfw.
Only thing I use the Psp emulator to dl is files from Sendspace, as the Vita browser isn’t configured to dl from there.
lol…
drag an drop/ftp is way easier, though slower for transfering big games an such but oh well.
Yes I know. I actually use it myself. This method is just a precautionary one.
o god.. and again not ps vita scene just hack for psp.. 2014 here we go :/
I hear you, if only for every 10 people whining like you there was 1 hacker, we probably wouldn’t have a problem.
Wololo I’m a lvl 1 noob with little to no skills but I wanna write code if even just to do simpleton stuff. Whats the best way/programs to plvl myself?
woloLOL. actually im using my vita now more than ever because of tnv ecfw. psp games like gungir and guilty gear ac look gorgeous on the oled screen. as well as arcade and scummvm games. its too bad sony is phasing out oled version for a cheaper lcd version. but what can you do. except go and get the oled version. seriously. if you are a gamer. oled vita just. better. sony had a great 14 for 14 sale recently. grabbed the games i wanted. now im content with my vita and i have no problems staying with current firmw. until exploit is released for future firmw. only thing missing in tnv ecfw is the media engine plugin? that the original psp ecfw had (ps1 sound and being able to mount/view umd movies). but i can live with that. vita tnv ecfw is what i considered. in fgc term. gdlk. (godlike).
I get low memory errors and tons of popups about going from an encrypted page to an unencrypted one. By the time those are done, it shows no actual posts in the forum. Is there a more mobile optimized URL I should be using?
This is srange. I constantly browse the site from a 3 year old phone and dont have any of the issues you mention. In particular, we dont have any https/encrypted pages.
I get those too, but not when accessing that thread. Make sure that you search to thread on Google then click through there directly. Navigating there through /talk doesn’t work.
Hey, The Jay Doctor is this your first article? I haven’t seen anything from you before. Great post none the less.
Yup this is my first, and surely not my last….
Website that lets you directly download to cloud storage-
http://ctrlq.org/save/
(BTW Links have to be direct so links that take you to another site like mediafire,MEGA,4shared,etc won’t work.)
for the Homebrew Games/Applications and emulators walkthrough, can that be done with psplorer? I’m on arcade TNv7.3 and I don’t think pspfiler works on mine, it didn’t the last time I tried putting it on my vita.
I’ve never used PSPlorer but as long as you can open folders and copy files, it should work.
Can someone message me where to get ISO for free? It can’t seem to find any that work without a torrent
NO!!! We can’t. Piracy is 100% untolerated on this site. Buy the games!!!
If they are telling us to get ISO from a ecfw obviously I am not going to buy them
You don’t want to buy them because you enjoy piracy, which we do not condone here due to it being illegal. There are legal reasons for which to use ecfw to play ISO/CSO files. After all do you see a umd slot on the ps vita by which you can play your LEGALLY purchased and dumped umd’s with?
why without then ?
psptorrent
i just need one package
psp-qtemu
what about a tnv for game only
and otherside showtime or xbmc
nice!
im still waiting in psx with sound on tn-v 😀
I have save issues on king of pool exploit. But only street fighter alpha 3 max(so far…) it saysno memory stick found, memory stick should be at least 256 KB etc.
Total_Noob!!! Could you fix it? Please.. 🙂
Are you sure you have enough space on you memory card. Go to ps vita Settings -> System -> System Information and see how much storage you have and post it here. It sounds like you don’t have enough storage.
Um why can’t we just use usb mode on the xmb like its a real psp that would be great . Lol just a idea
Becase that and other features on the Emulator were disabled by Sony 🙁
The PSP emulator is like a fully closed box inside the Vita. It cannot access the Vita’s kernel.
There’s got to be a way to use usb without internet. Could it be possible to code the psp emulator to make it work ?
When I try to copy homebrew in psp/savedata/game exploret. It says cannot read ms0/psp/common/(game I downloaded). Not sure what’s going on there. Any help would be great. Thanks.
This happens with some things but I have no idea why. If you watch the first video you will see this happened to me. Are you sure that it is named correctly? i.e. All caps fir both name and extension. Check to see if the game is available on PSPInstaller. You can get PSPInstaller through that same thread. If all else fails use (Open)CMA
PlayStation Store in manutenção ?
Yes. Si.
thank’s the jay doctor 😀 and welcome to wololo I wonder where are the others…. since wololo said something like “new ps vita exploit” there are no new posts :/ even Minimur is lost with the “what happened this week” I hope everything it’s ok
btw i was just wondering was the “home” feature of the psp emulator disabled ? on an earlier tn-v i could hold down the home button then hit the x on that screen to see the home menu and exit a psp game to the xmb now i get nothing and need 2 redo the exploit to change games?
Yes this happens with certain games, but works with others. I believe that it is a bug.
It may be, but changing the configuration of the home button simulation helps.
Press SELECT on the XMB to show up the VSH menu. Go to recovery menu > advanced > advanced configuration > simulate home button. You should choose 2 buttons & hold them down when you want to use the home button. 😉
Yes you can do this but what happens is Please Wait… comes up and then the game crashes.
I guess no one knows. Lol.
Some people may have figured out this method some time ago, but this is still helpful for newbies or people who have trouble with PSP Filer. Anyway, hope for more articles to come!
Thanks
But wait isn’t extracting the files to the GAME folder directly easier?
Yes it is. I just wanted to make it as easy as possible for the people that might have trouble.
I’ve been using this method since PSP and it’s very efficient, Especially for emulators.
Yes. It is quite efficient.
Hello.. is there another way to transfer my iso/cso file to my vita ? ‘cos my internet speed/connection is slow, it takes much time…
hello. noob here. it seems i cant understand much about this TN-V thing. but i want to ask if i am successfully install this TN-V in my vita, can i play ps one games such as digimon world 1, world 2, world 3, digital card battle, rumble arena?
thanks
Hey!!! Noobies here…Can I play Naruto Shippuden Series from the PSP if I use this method?…
