PS4 Firmware 1.52 available, “improves” system software stability
Today, Sony announced an upcoming software update for the recently released Playstation 4. The second update since the launch about a month ago, this release doesn’t bring much in terms of new features.
The update details just say the firmware increases the stability of the system while using some features, and that’s basically it. In the underground world of the Playstation scene, though, we’ve learned to interpret those meaningless updates as security patches to prevent potential hacks or exploits.
Is that the case here too? Some people on twitter were quick to confirm that the update does not bring any of the awaited features, such as support for Sony’s exclusive “Pulse” headset.

Players are expecting many new things from PS4’s update, including theme support, integrated music and video players, etc… so such a “tiny” (it’s still a pretty big download, considering how little it really does) update is always a disappointment. Earlier today, a tool was released that could read the content of the PS4 flash . Although that firmware update (compiled 6 days ago) has most likely nothing to do with it, it is a funny coincidence.

I was expecting so much more especially with a so much time.
Expecting more than this so early is stupid. They are struggling enough to keep the launch as stable as possible therefore security is one of the first things they need to deal with.
Secondly logic says that with new features comes new bugs and potential security holes so I would assume they would not want them to accumulate.
Imagine sony’s reputation being a broken console… Not a good idea
What about Flash player?
Will likely never be included. Adobe has been pulling flash support on systems, not promoting it.
Which is bloody annoying for us Nix’ers.
However, there are a few opensouce flash plugins they could use, if they wanted too. They just don’t give a damn.
BrD 3D playback, color themes, maybe even themes, being able to sort stuff on your home screen and in your library… I really hope they bring those to a (not too distant) future update.
The ps4 is really beginning to become a dissappointment for me and just another ps3 with useless update after useless update. They have A LOT of work to do if they want to win this race against microsoft and it seems like in a big way at this point, they aren’t even trying to win anymore.
“Race against Microsoft”, I don’t know a single person in real life who’s even considering getting an XBox One, I also only know a couple people with a PS3. They’ve all switched from Microsoft, to Sony. I think time will tell who wins but I can’t imagine my town is all too different from others.
I own both systems, but I actually don’t know anyone who bought a PS4 besides me. They all bought the Xbox One. So maybe the other towns are different 🙂
The race is an illusion. They don’t want to win. They actually make more profit with competition. It also ensures brand loyalty and interest. Notice they both adopt the same key concepts. They aren’t these eternal rivals who are polar opposites.b in the same market. You won’t see them donating money to each other but,
