Don Mattrick Leaves Xbox For Zynga.
Xbox Interactive entertainment boss Don Mattrick has left the Microsoft to become the new CEO of Zynga. A step down, or a step up?
I’m not sure if this resignation was related the Xbox One, or if it was just a company switch around, but why would you quit a company like Microsoft?
So, is he an Exboss? Or is he Z-man…..
Anyway, he is now the CEO of Zynga. The struggling company in serious need of revival, like I’ve said in a weekly roundup they recently laid off 500 staff, including the OMGPOP team who is known for their app Draw Something. The funny thing is, he will be paid mostly in Zynga’s stock, so he must work hard to make that worth anything.
Whoever replaces him, hopefully they are a bit better at thinking on their feet during interviews, and not suggest you to buy a 360 if you don’t have access to an internet connection.
I don’t want to be rude, but I cant help but think Don reminds me of Alf
Don has an interesting history, a bit like Mark Cerny.
At the age of 17 he co-founded his own games company known as Distinctive Software inc. and after it was acquired by EA in 1991. They made such games like Test Drive for the Apple II and Commodore 64 When he worked at EA, he was President of Worldwide Studios for Electronic Arts. He retired from this job in 2007 and then went to work at Microsoft for a while and now, is the CEO of Zynga. 🙂
Post resignation, Microsoft boss Steve Ballmer posted an IE (Internal Email, not Internet Explorer 😉 )
Here is it all:

Subject: Don Mattrick’s Next ChapterZynga announced today that Don Mattrick would be its new CEO, effective July 8. This is a great opportunity for Don, and I wish him success. Don’s directs will report to me and will continue to drive the day-to-day business as a team, particularly focused on shipping Xbox One this holiday.
Since joining IEB more than six years ago, Don and his team have accomplished much. Xbox Live members grew from 6 million to 48 million. Xbox 360 became the No. 1 selling console in North America the past two years. We introduced Kinect and have sold more than 24 million sensors. We released fantastic games, and, most importantly, we expanded Xbox to go beyond great gaming to deliver all the entertainment people want — sports, music, movies, live television and much more.
In the past month, the IEB team showed for the first time here on our Redmond campus, and again at E3, how we are going to continue to transform entertainment with Xbox One. I am incredibly proud of the work and vision culminating in Xbox One.
I’m particularly excited about how Xbox pushes forward our devices and services transformation by bringing together the best of Microsoft. The consoles are incredible all-in-one devices with built-in services that consumers love, including Bing, Xbox Live, Internet Explorer, SkyDrive and Skype. And, just as important, Xbox Games, Xbox Video, Xbox Music and SmartGlass light up Windows PCs, tablets and phones.
Thank you, Don, for setting us on a path to completely redefine the entertainment industry. The strong leadership team at IEB and their teams are well positioned to deliver the next-generation entertainment console, as well as transformative entertainment experiences, long into the future.
Steve.
Oh, I’ve missed out a video in the past few blogs, here’s some of the best I’ve seen recently.

Doesn’t Don’s face make you want to punch him?
Anyway, I think he is abandoning ship now that he can because the way I see it. Xbox 180 will slowly and painfully sink.
YES! YES! YES!!!
I’m so glad I’m not the only one… I was just telling my girlfriend that I didn’t like him the other day while we were watching the E3 presentation for Microsoft.
I think Its his first step to gradually join SONY someday.. LOL
PS4 rocks…;-)
NO!!! We don’t want him to ruin Sony.
wait…is it true xbox was selling in nortb amerika more than the ps3 and the wii? i mean wff? Its clear that nintendo wii won the last generation battle. Even though it have a *** grafic… like now the wiiu. So how the heck did the xbox won in amerima o.O (read the email)
sales doesn’t necessarily mean won the generation, personally winning a generation means by what console made the consumers (and developers) happy, this could either be the Ps3, Xbox, or like you said Wii.
Basically, which has better games?
What platform is the nicest to developers?
The opinion. The wonderful thing
🙂
Well why did the xbox 360 won then?
Yes it did have better graphics, but games, does 360s exclusives really that good compared to ps3s?
Nope. PS3 Won. Not in price. In hardware, games and online service.
The Xbox used sh*t hardware
worldwide sales for the PS3 are better than the Xbox 360, it only won in NA, but in EU there’s more PS3 gamers and in Japan the Xbox is almost nonexistent.
For ME the wii won this generations battle, cause it was fun, it had full backwards comp and a “sh*tload” amount of fun-, ***- and shovelware games, not to say the exlcusives XD.
And the gen before it was definitely the PS2, and the gen before that it was the n64, snes and nes.
And in the mobile area ninty dominated and I personally think that the psp was beaten by the nds because when I look at the library for the nds its more than twice the amount as for the psp, that is a fact.
However these are my opinions and should not affect anybody else in anyway.
They can say it all they want that it had nothing to do with the negativity on the Xbox but it sure is suspicious and why do it now why not after the launch… at least see it thru not jump ship and make it look like you don’t have faith in it. … either way never cared much for Microsoft as a company even before they decided to get into the gaming industry. …
it’s a step to the side, they’re both going down.
Thats it, if this website is going to Insult Microsoft, im no longer visiting here. You can insult Don Mattrick, but you cannot Insult Microsoft. I hope your proud you just lost a fan Wololo.. Great Job
first of all, this is majorly a sony website, specially in the handhelds, so I don’t know what you were expecting. Second of all, this article has nothing to do with wololo, nor his opinion, so I don’t care if we loose a user that can’t even read and make a proper judgment in the first place. Third of all, where was microsoft insulted? fourthly, we have always criticized sony, ALWAYS, for their anti-homebrew stance, so if we criticize microsoft just once, it doesn’t mean we fully hate it. And last but not least, you are the worst type of consumer that there could ever be, not only you ride on companies’ d*cks, but by doing so, you are harming users that do have legit problems with such company, you don’t allow for companies to correctly treat their consumers, and you are basically giving away all your essential rights and freedom to that company, basically you are no better than an Apple user.
1st: i knew that
2nd: im sorry i just noticed that, it is the Cruel comments that made me mad.
3rd: in the comments, plus this article did say something mean about the old Microsoft manager which means who ever wrote this article was insulting microsoft.
4th: i suppose thats fine.
5th: your words dont offend me, but what i dont really understand is that why would you insult your followers? i mean i was your follower but since you’ve insulted me your just as bad as i am. since i did basically insult this website, and you insulted me.
Skullboy99, apologies if you felt insulted. Although I do not always agree with what my guest bloggers write, it is still my website and I am the one who hits the “publish” button on their articles, so obviously I am responsible for the content on the site. However I do not see where Microsoft is being insulted in this article. Minimur12 likes to taunt in his articles, but I don’t see anything dramatically insulting in there, so I “hope” this was just a misunderstanding.
As far as what Acid_Snake told you above, this is 100% under his name and does not represent me or my site. Although he did state a few things I agree with, I do not condone his strong words about you. I know we can’t please everyone, but it is definitely not one of my goals to insult regular readers of this blog.
I do not moderate the comments on this blog, and I am in favor of free speech for everyone here, including the guest bloggers and the mods. Acid_snake said what he wanted to say, we don’t “synchronize” about the best way to reply to people’s comments on the blog, and I think it is a good thing to maintain free speech here for everyone including my guest bloggers, who never signed a contract to become “politically correct”. But this also means that nobody here, including the mods/guest bloggers (and therefore, Acid_Snake above) is speaking in my name or in the name of my site, except myself.
I’m sorry if I were insulted, that’s my writing style, as wololo stated.
In future, I’ll add a disclaimer preeching it’s my own opinion, not this websites nor wololo’s
if you felt insulted *
i love mi xbox 360 and im more than pleased about mi psp psvita ps3 and even the walkman mp3 that i use as a pendrive.but i hate microsoft and sony the same for diferent reasons. i hate them.jajajajaja
That emails sounds like advertising to themselves lol Do they ever turn it off?? Consumers love Bing and Internet Explorer LOL
Ikr. Microsoft tries to establish itself as retaining the best of anything. Browsers, OS, etc. The truth is Microsoft doesn’t actually make the best anything. No one likes IE, Bing, I hate WP7 OS, and Zune. They’re Dean Koontz in a world of Stephen Kings. I’m not bashing, they ,make good stuff it’s just not the best available as they never fail to try and convince us.
Yeah its a step down for him because Microsoft is so bad.
Sony is so much better! *as I think of all of Sony’s faults*
Nice Article fan boys…
This is just what everyone needs to read about. *Rolls eyes*
Overall I would say Sony won, however like you said, it is extremely popular in North America. I myself, form an opinion, based on long use, from both the PS3, and 360. I can say the 360 controller life span, is vastly limited compared to Sony’s DS3. It’s always the same problem, after about a month the left analog starts to move on it’s own. My PS3 controller is amazing, either the build quality is better, or the placement of the analog makes it harder to put force on. I have had the same PS3 controller for 2 years now, still going strong, and I also use it for a PC controller. I feel as if the 360 was poorly designed, rushed, and the faulty rates suggest the same. It was the most disaster prone console this generation has seen. I am no fan boy, but I will be damned if I buy Xbox One without some faulty rate feedback.
So much hate for Xbox. Wii, xbox, ps3, they were all great in their separate niches. WiiU, Xbox one and PS4 will do the same. They all won according to their respective gamer market and honestly, they all really did win in respective market. I have all three last gens and I will probably have all 3 for this new gen too. I want some PS4 games and some Xone and Wii U games. I’m just still happy with my current lineup up games that I’m not really that antsy on jumping on board with the new ones yet. Uncharted 1&2 was on sale recently on Amazon, so I’ve been catching up there and I’ll prob get 3 soon. Finished Heavy rain to so I can get acquainted with the dev and will be getting GoW for the box soon. Wii has not had anything new, so I’m staying away from jumping on teh WiiU wagon for now, but I’m sure I’ll jump aboard soon enough. I’m more interested being the guinea pig with the new gens though, so that’s another reason why I’ll wait a bit before getting them. All in all, I’m not a MS fan, or a Sony fan, though Sony software/hardware has been *** me off lately, or Nintendo fan…I’m just a gamer. If a system has a game I want I will get it. I’ll probably even get the ouya; free to play is always nice and I can only assume the boot up on that device is amazingly fast.
