Playstation 2 classics algorithm released and RetroXMB teaser. What does this all mean for you?
For those of you who actively follow the PS3 scene, you will already know about this but recently developer Flatz released the algorithm to making PS2 Iso files into PS2 Classics.
So what does this mean for the every day user? Well, nothing on its own but within a few short days of this release, multiple developers have worked with this, and have released GUI’s that allow you to do all the converting you could wish for. What this boils down to is that anybody can now take any PS2 game they own, rip the ISO from the disc, convert it into a PS2 Classic and boot it from ANY model PS3 on CFW.
Personally, I love this. It’s something I’ve wanted for so long since when I purchased my 80gb PS3 it was the later model without the option to play PS2 games, but now with the release of this, it’s possible for anyone with any PS3 model as long as they have CFW.

That’s not all though, Spewfr made a command-line GUI that will allow you to run your PS2 games directly from the XMB meaning no MultiMAN or any other loader required. You can read more on that here.

On the subject of booting games from the XMB comes RetroXMB. This hasn’t been released yet, but Unknown Archive posted a teaser video on YouTube. What this allows you to do is to directly boot roms from your XMB (name kinda gave that away, right?). It works off of the RetroArch Emulator. This is certainly something to look forward to in future.
And on a final note, Qoobz recently released PS1toXMB meaning, if you plan to play any form of retro game that’s supported through RetroArch, PS1 or PS2 you’ve no need whatsoever to enter another loader.

yes it will work (if these models are ever hacked) because the ps3 recognizes these files as ps2 classics downloaded from the PSN
I see. But are PS2 classics somehow “dumbed down” in terms of content/quality?
Not all games run well with this method. Some games don’t run at all because they need the original hardware, but from posts of users it runs obviously more than what the PSN Offers. Pretty sure they do 480P, only Gran Turismo 4/Tourists Trophy can do 1080i.

MEANS: WHO CARES? until downgrade for OFW or CFW installs on 3.56 to 4.40 or higher!!!
Means: Stop ***, you’re fault you missed the CFW. It took 5 years so you had all the time to be actively following the PS3 scene. Just go on ebay or craigslist and buy a PS3 that is modded.
Not anyone can just rip these games. My computer I got 2 years ago won’t read ps1 or ps2 discs. My older computer that died did though. It’s not gonna be as bad as the few drives that read Wii and Gamecube disc. With GC, PS1 and below, I’d just download from emuparadise.
What happens when you run PS2 games on a non PS2 model, like the PS3 Slim and Super Slim? Does it boot but some games just lag hard and what not?

So wait a minute… it only takes an algorithm to make ps2 games playable? The classics Sony releases hasn’t been re-coded or anything to work on ps3’s? Just the normal game and an algorithm?
My God, it’s finally happened. I have Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix running on my PS3. For those who try to do this, your usb flash drive needs to be in the right-hand most port when you run ReActPSN.

This is good news. I will wait for the day when the PS3 keys are discovered (like the PSP keys) so we can launch homebrew and hopefully PS2 games without having CFW.

The tool from Spewfr allows anyone even withour CFW to run PS2 games straight from XMB? In my case, CECH-3001-A OFW 4.40.

1 1/2 month ago i just bought directly a ps3 with 3.55 😛 got it now on Rogero 4.40 v1.02 and not PSN banned or anything else ;P 200 bucks was it worth got so far 85+ games ;D HAHAHA i luv it better than xbox hacked
