We mentioned it earlier today: Frostegater, the dev we’ve been hearing a lot from lately has recently joined the PRO Team, a team that have great developers such as Virtuous Flame, neur0n and Yosh/wth (sadly, coldbird left, we miss you bro).
Let us recap a bit on the history between PRO and Frostegater.
Initially, Frostegater was a publicly pronounced PRO-Hater, being more in favor of TN, so…. what happened?
Well, for starters, if something I have learned from wololo.net is that a united scene brings much more than a separate scene where no info is publicly shared (see ps3 scene).
Another thing to take into consideration is the recent leak of ARK (formerly known as PRO-Vita), a port of PRO CFW for the PS Vita, in which Frostegater played a role as he was one of the people involved in such leak, according to a recent blog entry by Coldbird himself. So you may ask “why is Frostegater joining PRO after he has contributed to the leak?”, well, there are a few things to take into consideration.
First, Frostegater never intended to leak the CFW in the first place, he just wanted to have it to reverse it and learn from it. This doesn’t change the fact that the leak happened, but amongst the people involved in the leak, Frostegater was the only dev, meaning he understood how Coldbird left and felt very sorry for his actions leading to Coldbird’s retirement. This lead to Frostegater offering Coldbird a kernel exploit to compensate for what happened, which lead to Frostegater befriending Coldbird and VF and ultimately joining PRO.
Now, I must come clean, this is not new, this happened quite a while ago, and I’ve been knowing it for quite some time, but I didn’t want to make it public without Frostegater’s or any other PRO member’s permission. so there is no reason to keep it a secret anymore, Frostegater is now a member of the Prometheus Team, and I know this means great things for the scene.
I also want to clarify that Frostegater’s membership in PRO Team does NOT mean that ARK will be released, Frostegater will probably release his exploit with CEF, because by the time I’m writing this, ARK is still a private CFW.

So… you guys said that this ‘ark’ project is gonna be way better than TN , but isn’t ps vita hacking scene pretty much limited to the psp emulator so far ?

What’s “publicly” avalabile is only in the PSP emu for now. Remember we also have UVL going on. So no it’s not all limited.

Yeah, but judging by the recent article where the progress on UVL is explained, I wouldn’t really say anything is “going on” there. It could be years before that is released if ever.

If I remember correctly wololo once mentioned that Coldbird was working on sound support for PSX emu, before he left the scene. If the PRO team was able to finish it than that would be a great improvement over what is currently available. Better homebrew compatibility would also be a huge step forward over TN-C. Maybe online infrastructure for AdHoc PSP games like in PSP’s PRO firmware releases (doubt about this one, maybe in future releases if it’s even possible with the sandboxed emulator)? We definately have something to look forward to in future, if the team decide to release it.

Great read. Happy that there all on the same page and making great things together. If ark is released ill be a happy man but if its not I’m fine with that. These guys work hard to find these exploits and are sharing them with us. and i for one am very happy with what they’ve done

why !? Sony only patch exploit, not ARK or eCFW itself.

They simply can’t, the only way to block ARK, TN or VHBL would be to prevent file transfer but that is something they can’t do.
As long as we can move files to the Vita, we have these exploits.

sony blocks kerel xploits, is more esasy than blacklist every user xploit in psp games, blocking kernel exploits kill any eCFW until and you need to port/remake it to another kernel xploit and they are hard to find…

why don’t we try to put together all of the trusted developers in one team and they can skype or something and work on the files together. we would probably get more done if we had a joint operation that took donations that they could use on buying games to find exploits or buying more vitas. just think of all of the work that would get done if we had a team like that on the scene
