Vita Firmware 1.81 is out, patches VHBL
As expected, the latest PS Vita firmware update is a “security release” which will prevent you from running VHBL through Monster Hunter. It still remains to be confirmed if all games of the series have been patched, but I’m pretty sure the answer will be yes.
Does this mean you cannot use VHBL anymore? No! As long as you stay on firmware 1.80 (and assuming you did Buy one of the Monster Hunter games when it was still time), you can use Open CMA to copy your homebrews to the Vita without upgrading. If your Vita (or CMA) insist that you update to 1.81, don’t lose hope. I have been told that the Vita can “forget” it saw the latest update if you hard-reset it. Or was it that you need to reset factory settings? Well, either way, try to not put yourself into a situation where the Vita asks for an update, but if it happens, be sure to try and reset it before you decide your console is doomed to upgrade.
Of course, you might want to update to 1.81 in order to be able to connect to the PSN. If you do this, you will lose access to VHBL through the Monster Hunter exploit. There might be other VHBL releases in the future to bring compatibility with this new firmware, but we don’t have anything scheduled yet, and one thing is sure, we will not be able to magically revive the exploit from Monster Hunter, so don’t even ask, and update at your own risk.
For those of you who decide to stay on 1.80 for VHBL, openCMA is currently the only way to copy homebrews to your Vita.

I was hopefully going to download it today (haven’t had internet access) although I have bought MH, can i still download it on1.80? (ways other then PS store?)
If you have a ps3, you can probably download and install the game from it. Otherwise, I don’t think so.
So will I still be able to play games online ie. wipeout fifa, unit 13 if I stay on firmware 1.80

Yes, it does block the exploit but as I said to the previous person simply use a proxy.

I had to do a system restore of windows to get Open Cma to reinstall correct. There must be ghost files preventing it from working. Now thats Evil Sony for you.

nope, this is yet another useless update that only patches a harmless hack. Sony is shooting themselves in the foot like when they removed otherOS, history is repeating itself:
removal of otherOS –> better hacks appeared (3.41/3.55 CFW)
removal of HBL —> better hacks appeared (6.20/6.3x HEN/CFW)
removal of VHBL —> better hacks will appear ( PSP Kxploit or UVL)
i dont see why people complain. if they updated, they can just wait for the next vhbl
Ture but they will be burning money at this rate. 3 games around $20 and one game for 10, thats $70 for hacks that get turned off. It gets annoying.

I only got the MHU exploit and since MHU is fun I would be mad if I updated, but i’ll wait til something good is in the psn b4 i update.
I think You (wololo) should not release a new game exploit for 1.81, (if You release 1.81 game, sony will release 1.82 firmware without any new features)…
Better is wait for maybe 1.83/1.84 or 1.90

As far as I can remember, when I was on 1.69 and 1.80 was out, there was no problem to access PSN before the upgrade..
“Charle’s proxy” also works for 1.81.
I have 1.67 firmware and the proxy didn’t work.

Pues recomiendo hacer un backup de sus apps y juegos hoy desgraciadamente mi consoloa se puso negra y no reconocia la memoria tuve que formatear y se actualizo 1.81 descargue todos las apps de nuevo el CMA funciona offline en 1.81 ahora esperar lo de los emuladores no me van me gustaban en psp fat pero aui creo se deb ir mas alla de correr nes o super nes me gustarian mas otros desarrollos espero y pase el tiempo y esto cresca de verdad siento como si tuviera solo un reproductor de musica y videos y nada mas los juegos estan muy por encima de mi economia y es casi imposible tener una biblioteca de juegos interesantes o que megusten ya que no hay muchos titulos. 32 gb of my psp inservibles creo yo.

I will be updating, PSN is worth more to me than VHBL, granted I will miss the emulators and Cave Story, but I want to get some of the newer games. And Monster Hunter is such a great game it doesn’t bother me to have bought it 🙂
You do have to update for the few like me apparently its mandatory (for some wierdly) i already tried hard reset and still it tells me to update, but im just gonna have to use a proxy or not psn at all , cuz im not losing vhbl again
there is a simple fix to bypass the “update required” message.
Just install OpenCMA and choose “Update by connecting to PC”!
Then you’ll be on 1.81 and bye bye to vhbl
In all honesty, PSN does nothing for me.
It’s easier to just buy the physical copy of the game. At that point, I don’t need to buy another memory card, and I can sell the game after I’m done with it… Or if I don’t like it. I’m looking at you, Dungeon: Hunter Alliance.

Well at least we know the answer to the other post. Obviously sony kept monster hunter on there and instead of pulling it off…let as many suckers as possible download it first…then devise a way to make is unusable.

I did not update and I’m still able to access psn. What I did was I went into options, hit update, then hit cancel. Then I was able to use the store without any problems.

If it updates, oh well i still have a nice psp game and blazblue to play, but ill try not to update as much as i can.

ok guys I received news that version 1.81 does NOT patch VHBL, it’s safe to update, you’ll have both VHBL and PSN and the game is still in the store. This is backed up by the fact that in some countries this update is not mandatory.
?? This sounds unlikely after the earlier reports. And if so, what DOES it patch? Leaked kx?
I have access to two PSV and one of them was gonna get updated anyway fairly soon, so I checked right away: Updated to 1.81, MHFU [EU] was already there, exploit was not.
Copied exploited savegame with opencma, started MHFU, savegame actually loads (not corrupted), went straight to Download as usual. Game hangs for maybe 20 secs, then error code C1-2858-3. Doesn’t matter if wifi is on or off.
I guess it’s _possible_ this means it’s not patched (on purpose) and that VHBL could work if tweaked, but I would advice strongly against updating until that is proven.

I’m not a blogger so I don’t post news, but like you said, the save loads (which means it’s not patched) but vhbl appears to hang (haven’t tested myself but other people confirm it hangs) so like you said, a bit of tweaking and it’ll work again.
Well since I haven’t got more info than what I see on my PSV – sure the savegame is not blocked. But it’s possible the new firmware closes a hole that made the crash into a useful exploit in the first place, while now it may be non-useable (just a crash).
While I think you probably wouldn’t post “It’s OK guys, safe to update” without being fairly confident – without any sources my own advice at this point will have to be “Wait and see, don’t update unless you don’t really care either way”. Seeing is believing.
The exploit is patched after all. My sources indicates that sony is now blocking the exploits using Vita OS instead of psp_emu, which is why psp_emu won’t complain when loading the save, but the exploit won’t work anyways. And to think I thought Sonay had changed, all they did was gather all the money VHBL gives with the exploited game and then *** us up, our revenge shall be epic.
It’ll be interesting to hear what they actually did this time. Gut feeling tells me it was something more radical than before (but I hope I’m wrong). Any word on other non-public user mode exploits still working?

too dissapointed from sony i ve got both a psp go and a ps vita an i will not buy another device of sony due to the policy of the company,first it was the umds and now they lock memory cards to accounts ,even with the horsepower of vita i cant see a decent game ,they release only updates to patch firmware in order to ditch homebrew and no release to put something new,in the end they will claim that piracy killed the vita but what i see it is them that kill the vita ,they dont seem to cooperate with companies to release new games ,only ports and they are trying to absorb money from us all the time ,well quess again SoNY if you dont respect your buyers neither they will.
that is what i believe and that is my conclusion,they need our money,let them work to get them…
If you dont see any interesting games, at least then it is pointless for you to update the firmware, so you can still use VHBL 🙂

Until a game worth playing over Super Metroid for the 9001st time comes out, im staying on 1.80. I already own the only worthwhile game on the thing.
I’m on 1.80 with working vhbl and can access psn no problem. Rotten luck to those being asked to update first. I’m gonna check out Charle’s Proxy not for if but when the owners of my rented handheld tell me what I can and can’t do on the machine I bought and payed for. Sad man, but life goes on. MH VHBL rest in peace. Believe me, I’m not trying to be lousy here, and as a person who has links to Devs and know how much effort it takes, all we can ask at this point in time is, Next?
