Survey: Gamers are overall satisfied with their Vita
French website psvitagen started an interesting survey where they asked their members if they were satisfied with the purchase of their PS Vita.
The results are not as bad as one might expect, with a bit more than 60% of the voters being “satisfied” with their purchases, and a bit less than 30% being not satisfied (and, yeah, about 10% without any specific opinion on the subject). Unsurprisingly, most of the commenters stated that the Vita is a terrific device with awesome hardware and a huge potential, but is under used for now, and especially lacks a strong game library so far.
The lack of games and support from third party publishers is clearly to blame, but also some weird focus from Sony on non gaming activities such as the Facebook or youtube apps. The issue is not that these apps are here, the issue is that (and I’ve mentioned it before) they feel like a wasted effort when all that would suffice is a decent web browser with html5 and flash support. When your mobile phone supports all the Social network and video playback functionality in the world, out of the box, you automatically expect the best mobile device in the world to support it. “Basic functionality: check. Now move on to the cool games”. Sadly, Sony is wasting efforts on half-*** non gaming functionality (which should have been here from the start) instead of focusing on bringing more games.
Of course, I am exaggerating the situation for the sake of the argument, and the game library is slowly but surely growing on the Vita. It is however sad to me to see that the Vita is following the footsteps of its older sister, with such a slow progression in sales that might be lethal for the product. If anything, this is proving to me that piracy is not really what killed the psp. Stronger competition is what is happening here… I still believe that in a few years, the vita will be a great purchase with a great library, but this is assuming Sony starts supporting it a bit harder.
How about you guys, are you happy with your Vita purchase, or thinking of selling it? What are the games you like the most so far?
