Droid X360 – The best Vita knockoff ever?
China is well known for not caring too much about copyright infringement or patent infringement when it comes to electronic devices. The Droid X360 is no exception, and is probably aiming for a record here, with a name strangely sounding like some famous Microsoft product, a design “inspired” by the Playstation Vita, and a bunch of preloaded Nintendo and Sega emulators.
And just to attract more customers, the console is also nicknamed the “A10 PSP”, where “PSP” stands for “Play Station” (not to be confused with “Playstation”… or wait, actually the goal is to confuse them). But long gone are the days of cheap Chinese knockoffs such as the polystation, the Droid X360 actually sounds like it could be an interesting piece of hardware for a reasonable price:
Available from retail at about 110$ (or closer to 80$ if you live in mainland China), this Android tablet ships with Android 4.0 (how many of you are still stuck on 2.3, despite owning “famous” manufacturers hardware?), and has fairly interesting hardware: a 5” multitouch screen, 1.5GHz CPU, Wifi, HDMI output, front and rear camera, 512MB of Ram, an actual gamepad …(check the full specs below)
For less than half the price of the Vita, this is actually not that bad, and makes me wonder why such companies don’t simply go with their own designs / name / etc… since they have a reasonable piece of hardware to sell. Is their plan to get free advertising from websites calling them off as ripoffs? I guess there is no such thing as bad advertising…
You know what, I’m almost temped to get myself one…
Note, this is not the Yinlips that was mentioned here before, it’s a new device.

So, what do you guys think? Could Chinese knockoffs be an interesting gaming alternative nowadays?
Those of you interested to buy it from outside of China can get it from aliExpress. Note that I am not affiliated to that website and never tested their service.
Thanks to Raziel for the tip!

interesting hardware/software, but it looks like a cheap knock off, something that wont last long if you drop it, or constantly using it..
on another note, it would be great to see ANdroid OS on a vita one day.. that would kill this
better buy Galaxy SIII than this *** 🙁
All of those video/audio formats…. looking nice already. And it even has flash, PDF, and Office support… Not up to spec with the Vita, but it already can do more than it.
Oh it runs on android… that would explain the massive support. Makes me wonder why Sony didn’t just include Android as an alternate OS on the Vita. Then it would have most of the perks of a smartphone in the beginning…
Nah, Sony just too lazy to do it.
Because they focus on GAMING, not Android or social apps. Otherwise they would tell people to go get an Xperia PLAY.
oh!maybe your answer is best one ! Orz
think how fast can some one create an exploit for an android and how fast for a new console os
It’s nice, I see videos a few day ago and android works very nice, for persons that need android games for trip 🙂
If the thing had better Specs that could Rival the Vita, and if the HDMI Port could hook up to your TV then I might have sold me Vita for it. For now Im happy with my Vita games and will be waiting in the near future to play Emulators.
Oh and thanks for the mention in the post Wololo.
looks good, problem is that there’s not many good game developers that make games for android, only decent ones I know of are gameloft and EA and even their games arnt that good. PS Vita doesn’t have many good games either but at least some good game developers are making games for it all be it not that many. but if games like angry birds is what you into then it looks alright.
Woah , this is actually a pretty good product as i see. I’m tempted as heck to get one of those . If you think that it has Office support , it could be called a mini PC. China is getting better and better with these. I like to call this the Alternative PS Vita and not a PS Vita clone , despite the design that is ripped of the PS Vita. Hardware also seems fairly nice , with cameras , strong CPU and GPU , 512ram , this is a fairly good product.
I purchased one myself, and I have to say is What a nice piece of hardware this is. The system is pre-rooted, it can also Play ps1 games, I might make a video showing how well this system plays on ps1 games. Android Market also works great, Live wallpapers and Themes. for $110.00 its totally a steal-deal here.
Please, please, please make a video. Also, can I ask you a couple of questions about it?
my main intention for buying the Vita was to have a perfect emulator system one day. If that thing existed earlier i wouldnt have bothered with the vita in first place.
Ditto!
Agreed.
Somehow I’m not interested in a open platform any more. The best part is to dig out the secret.
I share that feeling to some extent. I’d say I need both. Digging out the secret is a huge part of the excitement, but an open platform as a game developer (If I may call myself that) is also something I want
lol indeed
Such a product really exists?!
This is like the “perfect” version of the Vita, it’d most of the functions that we wish Sony had included on the Vita and functions that hopefully will someday be on the Vita. No more converting video, no more outdated browser, and no more proprietary memory card!
azzz bella la voglio anchio espero che esca anche in europa
:3
concordo XD venderei volentieri la PS Vita per questa
I am curious just how good the flash support is on this thing
Looks like a very intriguing device… Would love to know more about its relative power/performance though
Any further details about the CPU/GPU?
The GPU – the Mali 4003D apparently is similiar to the gpu in the galaxy s3, however with the cpu expected to be similiar to an ipod touch 4g or less.
oh,i think you may not worry about this point ,as a
student’s in china, most of us like me enjoy someth
ing like this. ( if you look this as a mp4,you well feel much better
Dont waste your money on that , get an Ouya ! 😀
Yup, I secured one already 🙂 http://wololo.net/2012/07/11/ouya-a-new-gaming-console-for-99/
Can’t wait.
1+ Ouya FTW
+1 OUYA!
Wait a minute. You’re telling me that china made a knockoff, that’s actually good? Excuse me while I go get drunk and try to forget about this thing
This is pretty sweet might have to jump on this, can’t wait to see what else it’s capable of…
That’s fantastic what this “console” can do, but just one thing is not so clear for me at all. Can it even run 3ds/nds game?? O.o it could get a good substitute of it!
Somewhere in the back of my mind I was hoping sony would budge a little and increase our gaming experience by giving the vita abilities like this one offers. But I get to really thinking about it, and this alternative seems to be legitimately going where sony is “possibly forever” unwilling or unable to go, and that makes me want one really really bad. IF its guts could fit inside a vita that would be a GIGANTIC A+ !
The standard way of naming prices is like “$value” or “value dollars”. Never “value$” or “dollars value”.
Just a heads up for the future, I really enjoy your site 😉
“The standard way of naming prices is like “$value" or “value dollars". Never “value$" or “dollars value".”
Alright, let’s put this in context…
“$value" $1337 “value dollars" 1337$ “value$" 1337$ “dollars value" $1337
Hmmmm …not think much?
Braindead
You aren’t very bright, are you?
example of “$value” : $1000
example of “value dollars” : 1000 dollars
Both are the correct manner.
P.S.: good luck with your fight in defense of drugs 😉
Thanks smii, i keep mixing these up!
No problem, Mr. wololo!
It’s just so that you can produce even better writings!
Keep up the good work.
This looks like a great machine. Maybe the reason why it’s so similar to the psv is because then won’t they have to think about the looks and form. Sony have already made sure the analog sticks are in the right places 😉
Looks like hes just watching a video and pressing random buttons sometimes.Either that or he just sucks at playing, button mashing happens a lot in that video.
I just wish it had 1GB of RAM rather than 512MB. Though I guess if it is running stock Android without anything like Sense to bring it down it might be OK. The specs don’t mention Bluetooth either which would be nice to have.
I would like to know if it has Bluetooth aswell..
someone buy this thing and review it:) The Pandora Hand Held has a new contender and cheap as heck:)
About $500 cheaper too. The Pandora Hand Held is way too overpriced if you ask me.
Cool. I am planning on selling my vita the end of this month, now the options are the galaxy tab 2 or this device. Sony, get your s!@# together, I got the vita for the seemed obvious cheaper games, though not really, and the ps1 perk. Games are expensive, short, not much resale value and still no psone usage. If only this x360 offered IR remote options. I was also looking at the htc rezound for that reason, cell, android and remote.
It does: http://www.irdroid.com/
I think i want this.
So can this thing hook up to your tv with the HDMI port? Also since it has android does this support apps like netflix and such? Sadly that is the thing I have been using my Vita for the most.
LoL to the folks saying it’s a video of a video, it’s a knock off…what do you expect? 100% lag free? CHINA, Wake up folks, this device seems legit but once in your hands, it’ll come with all sorts of fail…so much fail, you’ll probably want to throw the thing out the window.
Real talk, schmucks, welcome to Earf 2.
OMG I want this NOW! knock off or not, it is just all around a neat gadget.
It’s nice, but I still think I made a good deal buying the vita
Wololo do you know where I can buy the Droidx360?
There is a link in the article, read again
Thanks dude (wololo) for the reply
Wololo i should get credit for this because i posted this in the forum before you posted it on the website. Thank you.
Hey, thanks for pointing this out, but I actually got the information from Raziel in a PM. Apologies for not seeing your post, these things happen given the size of our community 🙁
If you have newsworthy things in mind, please do PM me, or even better, if you think you have what it takes to be a guest blogger here, get in touch with me and we’ll discuss details 🙂
I like how it has a Hdmi output… only missing a rumble feature you can turn off in settings and Dualshock connectivity.
If only sony would have added these features to the consumer Vita!
p.s. been following for a while and would love to be added to the community
Thanx Wololo!
Damn. I’m SOOooOOOO tempted to get this. Screen resolution is not so great though, but good enough for emulators.
I believe that this device is going to be truly amazing because it is exactly what I wanted the vita to be. But I must approach this situation with much much caution :]
Caution: Can the website you buy it from be trusted????? If it breaks really fast can you return it? Is there any kind of back up plan in place if something goes wrong? Or are you stuck with a pretty looking brick?
I have researched a couple of websites that sell this, one of which is the one mentioned in this article. Both websites are super shady and its a roll of the dice whether you will get good product or a broken one that cant be easily returned.
I hope someone can prove me wrong and find a good website or better yet the actual console, because I think I love this device and want it really bad.
aliexpress is owned by alibaba which is one of the most famous retail companies in China. The website aliexpress is, according to Alexa, one of the 500 most visited websites in the world. As far as I can tell, they are legit, but I never used their service.
However this is a “marketplace”: they own the website, but you buy directly from a 3rd party seller. This is where you need to check the credibility etc… of the seller.
Awesome. Thanks for the info wololo. I will let everyone know how it works out.
SOLD.
Im placing an order Friday.
It does everything it seems. And, for those in doubt of these products, dont worry it is real.
I purchased many things from china. Specifically, I purchased an older device called A320 aka “Dingoo”. And, it was one of the most awesome things ever. Picture a GB Micro that did video audio and emulation and thats what it is.
This device could very well unseat my Vita at this point.
super cool!
Since you have one, can you please answer my questions. You bought it from the U.S.? If so, how long did it take to get to you? Which website did you use to order it? Can it run PS1 games? How long does the battery last while gaming?
Please note the 4 hour game-play. However other sites state an 3 hour game-play. And honestly, with my past dealt experiences with china manufactured batteries, it won’t last any longer in the long run, probably hooked up charging 24/7
Despite all this, I’ve saw this on another post and was impressed by its specs, especially the hdmi out tempts me.
Just placed my order with Android Gadgets. Will hopefully get it soonish. I’m interested in testing out the dual sticks. Anyone know if they’re mapped to the d-pad?
Hi, has anyone got it yet? I’m tempted to get it from Alixpress, but I’m still doubtful. I’d also like to know what is the level of security that this thing has…Would it be possible to manipulate the file system?
Can you link a place where to buy it in China? I’ve got a friend there for some weeks and I’m interested in this. 80$ for a Handheld-N64/NES/SNES is not too much.
