Total_Noob finds a Kernel exploit on 6.38

As you probably know, firmwares 6.37 and 6.38 allow you to play “regular” homebrews through HBL, as well as “signed” homebrews, including some backups with the fake_np tool. But these two firmwares cannot run Custom Firmwares or HENs, which offer a much more “integrated” experience, as well as the support for custom themes and plugins. In order to run a CFW, a Kernel exploit is required, and the Kernel exploit that is used on firmwares 6.20 and 6.35 has been patched by Sony in firmware 6.37.

However, Developer Total_Noob announced via a video on his youtube Channel that he found a new Kernel exploit on firmware 6.38.

The video doesn’t show much, and a user-mode fake homebrew could do the same, but given the source I’m inclined to say that this is legit :)

Total_Noob states in his video that he has no current plan to release anything for now, so let’s wait a little bit :)

Feel free to discuss this breakthrough in the dedicated thread on  /talk

Next one is PRO. Or maybe not. XD
Total_Noob should wait and see if others will find the same exploit, so that he can say they are the same level as he is.

Faking is something stupid little kids do to get thier jollies on youtube
TN has no need to fake something like this because he has enough talent to find the real thing

I do appreciate all that TN has done for users, but what exactly is the point of keeping these things to yourself? You want recognition? You’re just going to loose some of that recognition when someone reverses your work and makes it better. But if you GPL it from the begining your name will always be there AND everyone can work together to make it better. For that matter why isn’t all homebrew open source? It’s not like you can sell it, so you don’t gain anything by keeping it closed source. The only thing it accomplishes is forcing everyone to re-invent the wheel, thus slowing down progress.

Don’t get me wrong, TN can do whatever he wants, I’m just saying it’s not effective or efficient.

What is the reason to hold back this release?
      Revenge?

lol, i think he will release it eventually, he just wants to have a little fun with the trolls and haters, watch them struggle a bit and eat thier words.

wow it is suposed that kernel exploit are extinct, but TN now have found two of them, i think he should keep it for a long time, there are not to many new PSPs with 6.37/38, he should wait, but good to have a plan to when sony start again strying the same thing.

BTW I get my hat of to TN, you already hace mark a spot in PSP history, hope you mark it to with the NPG or 3DS.

    just kidding jajaja.

Who knows? Maybe if Sony dupes us again on the new console he could lead us to the hacking revolution.. but maybe that’s going too far XD

Fantastic! but without the iso loader it’s just like hbl, still it’s not that important, the kid never ceases to amaze me.

He should quietly work on a hen for it and only release it when some other team discovers the same exploits. Maybe even create a downgrader so he doesn’t need to make a hen. This being said if he actually has intentions of doing anything with it.

EPIC!! a big ass company makes a console and its newest firmware it hacked by a 15 year old!!! is TN just a good dev? or is it that sony sucks damn hard at security? looking at the ps3, i think that last one, not that it means that TN is a bad dev but come on.

this is the second time. give it up sony. agree with it and let us have some fun with the psp.

Maybe TN should have kept this to himself until he had a working exploit for everyone (if he plans to release)….with this little video he now opens himself up to some HATE MAIL and people saying he is a “faker”. Well as long as he can handle that….this time :)

So why not release it? What’s the sense behind releasing a video showing the so-called exploit and then saying he won’t release it? What’s the sense behind announcing the discovery of a kernel exploit and then saying you won’t release it because there’s no ISO loader for it? Aren’t you supposed to show the exploit or make a HEN so guys like LIquidzigong who know their way about that stuff can produce an ISO loader? What did TN expect when there was so much excitement about the 6.20 exploit? Did he think people were only going to use the HEN for homebrews? What was Half-Byte Loader there for then? The whole POINT of a kernel exploit for most users at a time when Half Byte Loader was meeting our other homebrew needs was ISO loading, you dunce!

This guy is just a childish twat. I’ve been defending him for a long time, but no more. Time to move on to bigger and better things, TN-HEN users. Switch to PRO and save yourselves from the inefficiency and immaturity of this two-year-old-in-a-fifteen-year-olds-skin.
