Pro CFW B4 – unleash the full power of your psp (genesis compo entry)
![]()
Coldbird and Virtuous Flame announced a while ago that the next version of their CFW would be part of the genesis competition, and here they are, with CFW Pro B4, a new version packed with features.
One of the things that will probably get the most attention is that CFW Pro is now compatible not only with Firmware 6.35, but also with firmware 6.20 (separate download), a feature that was announced as a “big surprise” in an interview here on wololo.net. Not only that, but the 6.20 package actually has 2 versions, one being a regular HEN/LCFW, the other one being a permanent CFW (Permanent patch is not possible on 6.35 for now). This gives even more choice to all the people who were staying on 6.20 to benefit from TN’s Hen. It is now possible to use both TN’s Hen or CFW PRo on 6.20. A way for the two coders to let you try their work, and decide if you want to upgrade to 6.35.
There’s lots of stuff to be said about this new update, but I’ll simply quote Coldbird here:
Sony has always been trying to put a lock on our consoles, preventing us from using the full abilities of the devices we bought, well… if something’s locked then you just need the key, right?

Download
CFW Pro B4 for Firmware 6.35 can be downloaded on Coldbird’s homepage here (or alternate link here)
CFW Pro B4 for Firmware 6.20 can also be downloaded on Coldbird’s homepage (or alternate link here). This version contains both the regular LCFW as well as the “permanent patch” version. I personally haven’t tried the Permanent version, and I do not recommend it unless proven that it really has benefits over the LCFW version.
There are lots of things to be said about this new release, I’m sure many of you will be testing and enjoying it, so feel free to give your feedback in this entry’s official thread here

Permanent as in flashing the flash0 kind of CFW or the vshmain trick?
This actually flashes the entire LCFW into flash0:
To test this, I did a full shutdown after installing and pulled out the memorystick, when powering back on like this i still had lcfw, recovery menu access and everything….
I’m pretty sure this can almost be called a true full cfw.
Mm.. I see, Ill try it out then, hopefully all 6.20 plugins will still work
hi Lorz^^
great, the more the merier
Great work to the team, you Wololo for being awesome, and all others I forgot to mention. PS. the USB charging thing doesnt seem to work, I’ll test more though and I’ll see if its just me.
Enable USB charge then restart VSH. 😉
First thing I tried, Its not a big deal but it was cool in tn hen, also yeah I still cant get it to work, and when using PSP filer 6.6 I can’t Sort my ISOs to the top of the list, it always puts them at the bottom 🙁 sorry if this sounds like complaining, I’m not, just pointing out things that I noticed.
thats not the B4, thats the PSPFiler
I have the same problem, and enable usb charge option doesn’t work.
Looks like I still need to stay in TN-D, but that’s fine.
TN need to step up I like his hen but cb and vf owning da psp scene
*hopes for 6.20 TN-E
a, yeah, the big motherf*cker for unhackable motherboards.
Added version.txt Display Support does not work on 6.35 B4 , version.txt not woking at all it did work in B3
my bad used a wrong version txt
I really can’t make a decision which is the best HEN/LCFW for 6.20. Someone please help me out here…
Wow its funny back then people use to say how psp 3k, 4k and 5k’s cant have a cfw but now it seems thats not true. I have to credits to Total_Noob, Virtuous Flame, Coldbird, and Wololo. You guys changed the psp world forever!!! 🙂
@Brandonheat8 to sort your files edit your files created date, modified date and access date. latest date on top etc…
Tried the perm 6.20 pro on my ta-v3 psp, it worked. Though I noticed it’s sometimes slow on the xmb (note: sometimes). Check the tut in the forums I used it.
my bad version txt works a had a wrong txt
Well, now we can finally call it a real CFW ^^ GJ VirtousFlame and Coldbird.
Hey Guys, I have a Doubt. I have a psp Go 6.20 ofw and for now i’m using tn hen-D, if I install this new cfw with the Permanent Patch after a new release of a cfw, can I go back to the ofw to install another cfw?
thanks
you can uninstall the perma patch then uninstall B4
take note uninstall perma patch first.
I have PSP Go 6.20 with TN HEN-D. I can still play my PSN Classics, PSN, ISO/CSO with about 99% compatibility, PSX Eboots, and all my emulators. So IMO I wouldn’t need something like this. It’s always good to know there are other options but I have enough in HEN-D for now. Still looking forward to future releases to see what might temp me… Lol.
Don’t complain.
Please admit that TN-X will be obsolete sooon….
got some questions ^_^
-after installing the 6.20 pro-b4 perma, can i delete the 3 eboots (used to install the cfw) in my mem. card?
-if by any chance i want to go back to 6.20 ofw.. can someone post some steps on how to do that… after i go back to ofw will the flas0 still be tampered??
-will game categories light 1.3 still work on this version???
-can anyone post or upload a working “version.txt” and “spoofer” on media fire…
tnx ^_^
all you need to do is go to /talk forum
all stuff you want to know are there.
Yes you can delete the 3 eboots.
You probably can go back to 6.20. I’m just not sure of the steps.
Game Categories Light works fine, just not sure of which version I have.

So the LCFW becomes a real CFW? Well, at least the permanent part of it right.
Looks like my stuborness on not upgrading to 6.35 has been recompensed with more options.
But for now I’m going to stick with TN HEN. I still don’t like that perma-***, it doesn’t sound like something people would really need. What’s the hype about a pseudo-permanent LCFW? I have never had problems with sleep mode.
@Wololo: First of all, thanks for all the updates, second: Have you contacted TN for news about TN HEN-E? Thanks in advance.
jaja, in the credit.txt file, a line said:
kgsws for his idea of “faking” vshmain module as permanent patch
has anyone who has a psp-3k with 4g Motherboard tried to use the 6.20 perm yet?
for now ill stick with the LCFW until I know that its safe to use perm
Guys..I tried the permanent in a Psp Go 5g 6.20 ofw and it was perfect, I had no problems installing it. xDD
I switch to PRO cause it had more options and a build in ISO driver. All the plugins and homebrew I had on TN-D work fine on PRO.
Hahaha, me too. And the permanent part is a big bonus. Works on my psp 3000 3g
Steps for safely uninstalling the 6.20 PRO-B4 perm patch
1…. Disable ALL plugins and restart VSH(just to be safe)
2…. Check to make sure that your backup vshorig.prx is still at the root of your memory stick……. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO UNINSTALL WITHOUT THIS!
3…. Make sure battery is charged and you are plugged in(just to be safe)
4…. Run the Permanent patch installer and follow the onscreen prompts to select uninstall….. follow all prompts until the uninstall is complete.
5…. If PRO-B4 is to be completely uninstalled, run the PRO-B4 updater after returning to the XMB…… following the onscreen prompts, select uninstall, follow all prompts until uninstall is complete
@Lorz Thnx for the info

I’m going to try the perm with my 3k 04g model
how do you backup vshorig.prx? or is it ok that after installing and not touching any files that has nothing to do with games i can safely uninstall the whole lcfw??
vshorig.prx should automatically be at the root of your memory stick after installing perm patch…… if you like you can make a copy of this to keep on your computer for safe keeping…….. just make sure that it is back on the root of the memorystick before trying to uninstall
Wait so now we have PRO Hen for 6.20 now
Meaning I can dual boot into TN-D or PRO, it’s my choice?
Which one do I put into my psp to get the regular NON Permanent one, seeing as there was no read me included…?
Yep…. great to have choices isnt it? 🙂
The 6.20 Pro-B4 actually comes in a bundle……. 3 folders (Updater, FastRecovery, and PermInstaller)
If you do not wish it to be permanent, dont mess with the perm folder….. just install the Hen using the updater and launch the Hen every time with FastRecovery
I haven’t used PRO yet, I’ve been a TN user, so I’m not sure how to go about this.
So I put both the Updater and Fastrecovery in the game folder? and run the recovery? Which does what?
Does it not install the hen the same way TN-D does?
Run the updater first… the updater is actually the installer…. it installs a large portion of the LCFW into your flash0: so make sure your battery is charged up good when you do it
Fastrecovery simply launches the LCFW from the files that were installed into your flash0: You will have to use FastRecovery to relaunch the LCFW whenever you lose power/crash or whatever causes the HEN to stop.
Copy Updater and FastRecovery into GAME folder
Run Updater first to install PRO-B4
Run FastRecovery every time you want to launch the HEN
PS I should include that I’m on TN-D regular NON Perm.
Stop the competition and declare PRO-B4 the winner
…Lovin’ it!
I would keep TN-D, but.. I hate to admit it, but… PRO > TN T_T
Damn, that killed me, but I still have problems with freezing:
Whenever I try to view a photo, play a video, or play some music, my PSP Go freezes and shuts down, anyone else having this problem? Please fix..
Is your background from the opening fmv of Chrono Cross?
Ok, I ran the test for the permaPRO and it sent me back to the xmb menu(still running 6.20 Pro)
What does that Mean?
P.S. I have the back up of vshorig.prx on my memory stick. Does that mean the test was a Success?
yes now go back then press x then o to install
Looks like my stuborness on not upgrading to 6.35 has been recompensed with more options.
But for now I’m going to stick with TN HEN. I still don’t like that perma-thingy, it doesn’t sound like something people would really need. What’s the hype about a pseudo-permanent LCFW? I have never had problems with sleep mode.
@Wololo: First of all, thanks for all the updates, second: Have you contacted TN for news about TN HEN-E? Thanks in advance.
PS: Probably this will be a double post, My previous one didn’t show.
If this wins the genesis competiton, I don’t think it would be fair. The genesis compo is supposed to inspirate people make homebrews. While every person put all their hard work on their little hombrews, CB and VF (who are pro hackers) decide to put a HEN.
@poisonedhrt thanks 🙂
Yes sucess on psp go 6.20 , but still deciding on pro or tn
Wololo
This is off my mobile phone but I’m here to verify that the perm works i have a psp 3001 piano black 3g ver. 6.20 i have done the perm and it is a 100% succeasion for me and the select button on boot does run ofw.. same with r it boots recovery menu.
can i delete the three (fast recovery, pro permanent patcher and update) now that i have it installed or will that mess somthing up? sorry if its a stupid question lol
You can delete it… everything is installed in your flash0: now
ok, thanks
Before I even consider this….can it brick my PSP Go? (i’m a noob at this, Lol)
And also, how much is ”high memory”? I have the 333/166 setting on the VSH Menu on TN D. Is it higher?
Thanks.
The “permanent” version has a risk of bricking your psp if you do foolish stuff, such as unplugging your battery while you’re in the upgrade process…
Overall, a Hen has “admin” access to your console.
The CFW itself is fairly safe (it’s being used by thousands of people, if there were bricks because of it, you would hear about it), but since it gives you admin access, other tools that you run through it might damage your psp. It’s just a matter of correctly reading the README files, usually.
“High Memory” is the setting to unlock the extra 32MB on your psp model. The Phat has 24MB, and the other models have up to 56MB. Unfortunately, these extra 32MB are not available for games in general (Sony blocks it). So “unlock high memory” usually means that the HEN gives you access to the extra 32MB in game mode, which allows homebrews such as Quake3 or Aquaria to run, and other homebrews such as DeadalusX64 or Wagic will also benefit from it (and basically run faster)
hey….can I put 6.20 B4 to mi psp GO???please help me
Does the high memory help the psp browser run bigger websites it couldn’t load before? or is that a different thing altogether?
the browser integrated on the PSP does not benefit from the high memory. however there was a homebrew which extended the browser into using the high memory, which, yes, had much more compatibility than the regular one. Googleing for it should be easy 🙂
thanks for the info, I’ll definitely look into it ^^.
After having used it (Light PRO non perm) all day, I gotta say this is REALLY nice. Great PS1 support, loads all my ISO’s flawlessly, plug ins still work, and it’s overall a better performance than TN-D (and I was hardcore for TN)
Though the XMB is a bit laggy, like reading the memory card and such, takes a while now to process, and when it’s connected to my computer it takes a while to safely eject, longer than before. I like the recovery menu, but preferred the config options being in VHS like in TN-D though thats a slight annoyance 😉
Overall this HEN is great, and I think I’m making the switch to PRO for now 😉 Can’t wait to see TN-E because since it is a competition (With $$$), Total_Noob may put his anti ISO feelings aside and include a built in ISO loader, you never know ;D
