Wagic on the iPad and the iPhone

This is a post I promised myself I would do, a long time ago. The main reason I haven’t posted about this yet is that I don’t myself own any Apple product, so I’m in an awkward position to talk about this…

If you’re a Wagic player, you’ve probably been wondering if there was any plan to release Wagic on platforms outside of the PSP. The answer is, of course, yes. Wagic already runs perfectly on several platforms (Maemo, PSP, Linux, Windows), and we are trying very hard to get it ported to as many platforms as possible. But the truth is, we’re lacking manpower to maintain all the ports.

A little while ago, Xaw Otihs, who already ported Wagic to the Maemo platform, shared a video showing extremely good progress on the iOS platform.

If you’re into card games, you probably already know about freeware games such as Forge, Incantus, MagMa… These games all have pros and cons (Forge recently reached a number of cards higher than Wagic… but wait for our next release guys, the competition is not over yet ;) ), but Wagic is the only one designed for portable devices. If you’ve been hoping for a Card Game on your iPhone, Wagic is likely to be the thing you’ve been looking for. The thing is: the port exists (and it’s been in our public svn for a little while now), but we now need devs to improve it so that it goes into a more acceptable state: easier to compile, easier to configure, easier to distribute, better interface for touch devices, etc…

If you’re an iOS dev and are interested in this project, we would love to hear about you. Don’t send me an email personally, as I’ve been really busy lately, but rather, please follow our “procedure” for joining the Team: provide a few patches for the game, on the forums, and we will review them. If they’re good enough, we’ll gladly give you submission rights in our SVN :) . More info here

(and to clarify one thing, we’re talking of the Cydia side of the force here…we don’t expect Wagic to be distributed on non-jailbroken devices anytime soon :) )

As cool as this is, it would be a much better idea to make this native to an android device and port it to ios. There is already more android devices out there, it is a platform that encourages apps like these and would probably find a bigger fan base.

We also have plans for Android.

The iOS port happens to already exist, and I’m sad that it’s not getting much love despite being here. A few minor tweaks would probably make it ready for a binary distribution…

Hi wololo, my iPod 4 is jailbroken and I love playing wagic on my psp 3000, so this would not work on my iPod?

you know, not to discredit forge, yes they reached a higher number, but only becuase we maintain a really high standard on when a card is allowed into our primitives.

i’ve personally played forge, its a great game, however, the biggest turn off is seeing “half working” cards, in MASS numbers…lots of workarounds, like thier planeswalkers which don’t follow even 50% of the actual rules.

they seem to be very loose on the “add it now” button…if it works even 40% they add it…

thats one reason im proud of our almost 8k cards, becuase i know atleast 90%(guesstimate) of them are working as close or higher then 90%(fact) correct, and those that we’re not have been removed “such as the 300 cards which state “player discards a card”…which removed becuase the player was not actually able to choose the card being discarded.

i can very easily add 2000 cards if you would like, that would work at or slightly above 50%…you know i can, before i was a dev i coded a 700 “workaround” package :P . be proud wololo, wagic is top notch with very high standards for “correctness”

I’m not a big fan of Sony either, you know ;)
Also, if you read the article again, you’ll see that I’m not the one working on this port, and this is exactly why we are looking for more devs :)

Actually there’s a really good tcg called shadow era on the app store. It’s a fermium game. Comes with a free deck of your choosing. You can play against the ai or real online opponents cross platform. Really great game you should check it out.

It’s in our SVN, you have to build it from source.

@wololo how about a contest about porting wagic to iphone/ipod/ipad devices? I think a lot of people will be happy to donate a few bucks for a winning price. Is just an idea, Sorry for my bad English. Cheers to all!
