Total_Noob announced yesterday that he started working on a HEN. Apparently he’s been in possession of a kernel exploit for a little while now, but started working on a HEN very recently.
According to Total_Noob, although this exploit still exists in Kernel 6.31, he’s currently working on it for 6.20, through the patapon2 exploit and with the help of HBL.
I usually don’t talk much about “upcoming releases” unless I’m 100% sure they are true. This time is a bit different, I’ve never been in direct contact with Total_Noob, but he is well known for being a member of the team GenyUs, the team behind the GEN Custom firmwares (By the way, this work is by Total_Noob himself, not as member of GenyUs, but as an independent developer), so he is definitely reliable.
The exploit seems fairly “flexible”, Total_Noob announced that it could work without HBL, but there is no reason for him to waste some user exploits he might have found (he hinted that he is in possession of a VSH user mode exploit as well). So for now, he’s focusing on making the HEN run as a homebrew with HBL on the 6.20 patapon exploit. OFW 6.30 and 6.31 are said to be more unstable, but there is no reason the HEN could not be adapted for these firmwares after a while. There are still a few user exploits in games or in VSH waiting the good moment to be revealed, and this could be it if the hot shots golf exploit is not enough. So, although this will probably be for 6.20 only in the beginning, there’s good hope for 6.30 and 6.31 owners as well.
Total_Noob said that this should in theory work on all models, including the pspGo (although this is apparently yet untested), and announced a release date of “november, maybe”. This is still work in progress, and these things take time, so I wouldn’t be surprised if it take much more than that. Davee initially announced 1 week of work for the chickHEN, which ended up taking more than a month. Conclusion: as usual, don’t hold your breath.
Ah, a quick additional note for piracy fans: there is no plan for enabling isos in this HEN, but no doubt that some people will work very hard to release iso loaders as soon as this HEN is released…
So, congrats to Total_Noob, and if you happen to read this, you might want to contact me regarding 6.30/6.31, I can probably provide some user exploits if you’re interested.

@wololo do you think that TN can finish the hen before or after november?
BTW thanks wololo….the hen cannot be done without it…so thank you so much for the HBL….. -
I hope that this will be adapted for iso’s or cso’s. Not specifically for piracy uses but because Sony has poor choice when it comes to releasing games on PSN. I have the Go and I have bought many games from the network but I also see games that I would buy not available on PSN. They choose some of the worst PS1 Classics to add on there to. If people can backup their UMD’s with CFW very easily then Sony should be able to make more games available even easier than that. Thanks again Wololo for HBL, and Thanks to TN for keeping some hope alive.

@jlo138 your just using that as a excuse just tell the truth and say you want free games and stop lying to yourself.
-
It’s true yellow, they do choose the worst games to put on the store.

Sure, he is reputed and reliable hacker. I guess, according to his progress shown by him on youtube, it seems that he will finish the work in a few weeks but definately before Christmas as he said on some well known forums. So, as wololo said, no use holding our breath; TN will release it when the time comes. About, ISO/CSO support, definately will not be implemented in this HEN, but there are high chances of CFW or some already made ISO loaders like USB ISO Loader started on the MS mode or so. But, thanks for HBL wololo. You and your team has been the brainchild of hacking for 5.50 and above OFWs’.
Thanks. Cheers. Peace. -
@Wololo: you’re probably right about people not reading the readme…. and forgive my ignorance, I’ve never used a HEN before, but am I correct to assume that the way a HEN functions is to temporarily write a CFW into your flash:0 every time it starts?
I’m just a little unclear on how people are bricking thier PSPs with these, or how a normal user would even be able to alter the process enough to write somewhere it’s not supposed to write and end up bricking.
I may end up just sticking with HBL for the purposes of safety…. well that and HBL already runs pretty much anything I would want to run.
I don’t care about ISOs….. my only use for those might be for a PSX emulator.
