Getting owned in Wagic. Lesson 1: Depletion
One of the things I enjoy the most in Wagic is when the AI surprises me with extremely clever moves.
The AI in Wagic is driven by randomness, logic, and a bit of revenge. It basically “learns” which cards in your deck are a threat to it, and tends to target these cards more than others with its spells.
Today I got owned in something like 6 turns by the AI deck Depletion, and the moves were so good I have to talk about them.
On its first turn, the AI cast “Tome scour” on me, making me moving 5 cards from my library to my graveyard.
Unfortunately, the best card of my deck was in there: Ob Nixilis, the Fallen. That card is sooo unbalanced that it’s a great game finisher.
On its second turn, the AI cast Animate Dead on my beloved creature.
3 turns later, I was dead. (On top of the AI’s excellent moves, I had a very crappy starting hand, but even without it, such a powerful creature on turn 2…what can you do?)
Owing to its “revenge” mechanism, the AI in Wagic can be extremely good against combo decks, or, in my case, decks that mostly rely on one card to win 🙂
If you have good stories about the AI owning you in a way that seemed “clever” don’t hesitate to share them 🙂
Haha, that’s pretty messed up.
DO NOT INSULT OB NIXILIS OR YOU WILL BE BANISHED FOREVER TO THE FORBIDDEN ZONE!!!
LMAO,I swear it cheats some times!
lol, The AI is awesome.
Its smarter than me, and around where I live I’m a pretty good Magic player..I win around 7 out of 10 matches using random decks I make.
Anyway the AI is grate, I’ve had more than a few moments where I’ll be saying OMG!
Keep up the good work!
lol, I cant wait for a World Wake update! MultiKickers rule!!!
Just gotta say this…I rule!
I got “Jace The Mind Sculptor” from a PreRelease Booster Draft last Saturday! He Rocks!!!
Hope to see a Plans Walkers update some day.
Thanks Wololo you are a god!!
well,
Happy to see you suffering from my favorite deck type… this depletion AI deck is an AI version of my player “depletion deck”… maybe I should post the “player” version of this deck one day… it’s very fun to play too the main difference with the AI deck is the card “spoil of evil” combo with ambassador laquatus or psychic drain…
I had exacly pretty much the same experience as you with this deck…only the AI revived my Hellkite Overlord….that was hard…
One day I hope to see cards such as “Szadek, Lord of Secrets”… that would be in the end some definitive depletion AI deck…
Yorien says:
Hmmm, I also get owned from time to time, but I find this is usually because of COM drawing the “correct” cards on the first few turns, and not because of the AI.
I’m currently toying around with a green WunnyDeck (basically, an Elf Deck concentrating on quick mana advantage and creature numbers to overpower the enemy) and found a lot of flaws you can take advantage from
1-. I.A. usually sits there and doesn’t attack once you have creature advantage unless the I.A.’s creatures are way more powerful than yours.
2-. I.A. almost never takes into account creature abilities, usually checks only on attack/resistance ratings (I explain: I have a 2/2 Imperious Perfect down. IA has a 2/2 White knight and a 0/3 wall. IA will never attack with the knight, not taking into account the Knight’s First Strike). Same happens with other “unblockable at this point” creatures the I.A. may have down (for example, I have my 2/2 Imperious and the IA has a 1/1 flying or shadow creature and a 0/3 wall. I.A doesn’t understand I cannot block that flying or shadow 1/1 and keeps “thinking” it’ll be killed by my perfect)
3-. I.A has some kind of unnatural interest in tokens. I’m pretty sure that as long as I have some token generator creature (Imperious Perfect, Lys Alana Huntmaster,…) and some tokens down, 9 out of 10 times the I.A will keep targeting the tokens with Lightning Bolts, Swords to Plowshares, Terrors and other nasty effects instead of getting rid of the token generator.
4-. I.A. seems to “concentrate” efforts on one creature (as if he/she/it is the I.A.’s nemesis) “wasting” multiple disablers on that creature (I got a llanowar elf sunk under two paralyzes, a pacifism and another debuff, with a 23/23 Heedless One watching right at his side…)
5-. Against the Depletion deck, my case is pretty different than wololo’s. Since most of my cards are not extremely powerful alone (they mostly depend on card synergy – A.K.A. “Heedles One with 30 tokens” – or some kind of buff – A.K.A. “Overrun with 30 tokens” -), I.A. seems to always pick a creature at random (in my case, the I.A. did that to me twice, and picked a llanowar Elves and a Hexhunter, instead of a way more powerful Heedless One that got buried also)

Please, take note that this is not a complaint and I’m not asking for anything. this is just something I see on my playthroughs.
theres a spell(i forget its name) that makes you draw 7 cards everytime you play a spell.i have been traped in terrible moments cause of that
I seen the same type of odd behavior playing against an elf deck with my own…
I put out Elvish Champion (2/2, gives other elves +1/+1 and Forestwalk…not just yours). He has 5 elves in play and DOESN’T attack, even though there’s no way either of us can block one another! XD
For the explanations defined above I’m needing to tug as many of them
as I can away from binary leaving a skeleton” set up which can subsequently imply that the one possibility I’ve is to offer the
signals for FREE.
